Getting the baby home

Ok ladies, I have a question. My husband is not my friend anymore, my family has deserted me, and I have like two friends in the entire world. Can I drive myself home after having a baby? Right now if I go into labor I have no one but myself to get me to the hospital and I have no one to get me home. Help

Re: Getting the baby home

  • I don't think the hospital would want you to, but I doubt they can stop you if there's nobody who can help you. Talk it over with your OB/GYN or midwife to be sure, though.

  • I could have driven to with my last if I had to. You know what your last labors have been like. That should be a good starting point. I could have driven home but if you have a cesarian I don't think there is any way. My labor was not taxing. How far you are from the hospital is another factor. If there is anyone you feel comfortable asking I would. If not, maybe a taxi or asking around if there is a non-emergency service for such things. Your local health and human services office may have a recommendation. You're in a hard position and I'm sure you're struggling with a sitter for your boys. Wish there was more I could offer.
  • My youngest is in Pa with my in laws till after the baby comes, my 11 year old will have to go with me. I am just worried about how the heck I am going to get home.
  • I doubt they'll let you drive home. Especially if you have a c section, then you can't drive for a few weeks. You can however take a cab. Sorry you have to do this.

  • This may be a shitty suggestion, but maybe call around for taxis?  Do you have any friends or family nearby?

  • Also, call the hospital and ask for suggestions. Maybe they offer a service.

  • You can't be the only single mom. Calling the hospital is a good idea. Sometimes local churches have assistance too.
  • i would ask the hospital about your options. I know that if you have a C section you cannot drive for at least two weeks (I had to have one and that's what I was told)
