Bed-sharing /nurse to sleep moms

Does anyone have any advice on how to find the opportunity to "do the deed" with your SO? My husband and I never get "us time" because one of my 4 month olds can't be put down. She even wakes up and cries when I use the restroom in the MOTN! She seems to be a VERY light sleeper, so I can never put her down asleep and slip away. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever have sex again, poor hubs.

Re: Bed-sharing /nurse to sleep moms

  • I have to lay in bed with DS (while he nurses to sleep).  He will eventually unlatch or I'll do it if I notice he is "out".  That's when I will s-l-o-w-l-y slip away off the bed.  We don't do the deed often, but that's the only opportunity when we do and it's quickies.  DS is a light sleeper as well and KNOWS when his "boo-boos" are MIA.

  • I am able to slip away very slowly and quietly once DS is fast asleep for some alone time. DS usually is so deeply asleep at that point that his limbs are limp and his mouth hangs open (unlatched). It took more patience when he was younger, but we aimed to always get a few quickies in per week at minimum. Quality time to watch TV, talk or snuggle was rarer but we did our best.

Now DS sleeps like a rock and I probably don't have to come to bed for hours. I usually am pretty tired by day's end, so I don't stay up too late anymore. ;)

Oh my gosh, thanks for asking this question! We're in the same boat, DD is SUCH a light sleeper! Even if I could slink away, which I've tried (think ninja roll or snake slither off of mattress ;) ) I am too tired to even think about "it". DD has been waking every two hrs to nurse for a long while now (she just turned 7 mos) so I sleep when she sleeps, which means early to bed for me too. I guess my priority has been all about baby; I really should find a way to balance this to have quality time with hubs. Poor DH :(

Sorry, I'm no help, but just wanted to say "me too" and I understand. I'm interested in seeing the comments though!

  • Thank you. I used to try to move her or slip away when I thought she was in a deep sleep but she always wakes up within 5 minutes. I am slowly and gently trying to break her nurse to sleep association by using the Pantley Pull Off method, because as a twin, she HAS to be able to put herself back to sleep or she will be chronically overtired. I'm also going back to work next week so I won't be here to nurse her for her naps during the week.

Ah well, Hopefully it is just developmental like you suggested, ClaryPax. And all too soon they'll be in big girl beds and all grown up! :(

  • Try a tank top or shirt you have been wearing over a nursing pillow. Wait 20min, unlatch. Slowly roll away and slide the pillow with shirt in your spot. I say tank top only because it will fit a bit tighter over the pillow.

Be sure to have the pillow against your back when you are nursing to sleep so it is warm and mama smelly :). This is how I finally got DD to sleep alone or naps. Hopefully this would give you a few hours in the evening to hang with your hubby.
