Intro/Baby wearing question

I have been lurking on this board off and on for the last couple of months and I have enjoyed the insight from all of you on this board. Little intro, I gave birth to DD (my first child) on August 11, 2013, I am a SAHM / student. Ever since I got pregnant I had been looking forward to getting to wearing DD in my Moby and my pocket sling. As it turns out, DD hates being worn. I have tried both of my carriers a number of times and every time I put her in, she gets very fussy and won't stop fussing until I take her out. I think the issue is that she likes to be stretched out and she can't really stretch or move her limbs in either carrier. I still want to wear her but I am not sure what to do. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation and if so, how did you handle it?

My DS, who is almost 6 months, still only wants to be worn if I'm walking. He isn't content in a carrier if I'm just doing stuff around the house. Some babies are like that!

Remember that AP is about giving your baby what she needs. If she doesn't want to be worn, it's totally AP NOT to wear her.

You may want to try a soft structured carrier (like an Ergo, Kinderpack, or Beco Gemini) or a mei tai. In those carriers, she will have her legs and arms free and might be happier.

If there's a babywearers group near you, you could attend a meeting and try out some carriers for free to see what she likes.

Like PP said, my DS also prefers that I'm moving when he's in the carrier. Otherwise, he wants down to walk around and explore. He also often objects now to the carrier anyway because he'd rather the freedom to walk.

My LO hated the Moby but loves the Ergo and I can happily wear her for hours in that. May be worth trying other carriers.

Have you been wearing her legs out? That makes a big difference for many babies. Also make sure you get moving! Many babies will fuss if they are in a carrier just standing still - give her some time to adjust to it as you go for a walk or something like that. Pouch slings are often tough with newborns because it's difficult to get a good upright tummy to tummy position with them with a small baby since you can't really adjust them much.

Like PPs, DD never loved to be worn in her earlier days. She did okay in a ring sling if I was moving constantly, so I could usually use it for a walk or the grocery store, but after that she wanted OUT. I think it was too confining for her, she wasn't a fan of swaddling either.

I found I could do things like lay her on a blanket on the floor with toys and get a few things done room by room, moving her around with me. Id stop now and then to play, then get a little more done. to this day she hates the Pack n Play too!

Experiment, you'll find what works for your LOs temperament and developmental stage (and it will change constantly)!

DD wasn't keen on being worn until she could reliably hold her head up. When she could finally look out, she loved it! Don't give up. It may come later! Edit: I don't have her forward facing, but she is able to have her head peaking out and can see stuff.

In response to the PPs: Sadly, there aren't any baby wearing groups in my area but I do plan on getting a mei tai in the next couple of weeks. I am also looking at the Ergo for when DD is a little bigger. @ncbelle, in the moby I didn't think I could wear her with legs out until she could hold her head unsupported

You can still wear the Moby with her legs out and tuck her head under the fabric for neck support. I do this when my DD falls asleep in it.

Same as PP, my LO wasn't crazy about a carrier until she could support her own head a little better.
