7 weeks post-op today...my incision is bleeding!

Hello ladies! I haven't been on in a few weeks :(  I went for my first post-partum check up on Friday and she looked and said my incision looked great. Well probably around Sun, I felt a hard lump on a spot and had my Mom look at it and she said it looked like a pimple starting, right in the middle of the scar. Didn't think too much more about it except that it hurt a little. I still have fat hanging over it and thought the friction might be causing pain. Well, last night, I noticed blood on my underwear at about the level of the incision! Freaked out and called my Mom and told her, she said it might be the pimple that had burst but to keep it clean and covered anyway. Well, she wound up stopping over here and looked at it and there are two tiny holes that she could see! Its like where there was a stitch. Totally blew my mind since I was fine on Friday! Mom said maybe I should call the doc and maybe they can re-glue it?! Called the OB on call last night and explained everything and he said to keep calm, its nothing to worry about it, I probably had a pocket of fluid that needed to come out! HOLY CRAP DOC!! REALLY? I asked if I should call in the AM and come in and he said no, keep it clean and covered but if it goes on for days, I might want to come in. WTH?! Anyone else had this happen this far out of their surgery date?

  • Just the fact that your worried about it means you should get it checked out. Better safe than sorry even if its nothing.

  • I had major incision problems after my csection, that are ongoing after 3 months.

I just wanted to say that if your gut tells you that something might be wrong to keep insisting on being seen until you get the care you are happy with. I was told mine was no big deal several times, but I knew otherwise.

I kept demanding to be seen. Finally, they realized just how serious it was. Now, after multiple rounds of antibiotics, twice weekly flushing of the wound, having to have home health care come and pack it with gauze; I am nearing the point of getting well. I still probably have several weeks to completely close up though.
  • I had a lot of incision issues with this past CS with it getting infected, oozing fluid which then led to a really bad yeast infection along the whole incision (I also have that fold) and finally after oral antibiotics and IV antibiotics and four months of time PP I finally feel that the incision may finally be healed. I went into the OB 4 times prior to my 6 week PP visit. I thought it would never heal...but finally I am starting to feel more myself. Make an appt. if you have any concerns.

  • Make an appt and don't take no for an answer. My incision was weeping in one spot, turns out it was infected- what you described sounds just like mine. but luckily they caught it early. They used silver nitrate to close the small hole and a week of antibiotics and it was all good after that.

  • I was bleeding 7wks after my c-section.  It turned out to be my body not liking the stitches so they were trying to push them out...turned out fine.  The stitches I saw in the area it was bleeding just fell out one day and the bleeding stopped soon after.  I went and had it looked at to be sure though and the nurse said it was fine and normal.
