Moldy bath toys

I cut open one of DD's bath toys and it was disgusting. I guess I need to replace these every so often. It grosses me out because she loves sucking the water out of the toys. 20130827_181839

Re: Moldy bath toys

  • All of the new bath toys I got for J don't have the hole in them. I'm terrified of mold.

  • Lucas has 2 toys that are starting to do this.

  • What made you think to check it for mold? I disinfected M's with bleach about two months ago, but she loves sucking the water out too...

  • You can clean them with rubbing alcohol. Squeeze as much water out as you can and then suck in some alcohol and shake it around. Then squeeze it out as much as you can. But I think that's only before they mold. I used to clean them with bleach water but I don't think that necessarily helps with mold either.

  • You can get bath blocks and bath stickers. They are made of foam and don't mold. My kids love them two years later they are in great condition.

  • Ugh, "sucking the water out" - made me cringe. :)  We have 3 rubber duckies, we got as gifts and I cut large holes in the bottoms early on, when I saw postings about this before. Problem with that is they don't float that way. I also heard hot gluing the hole works great too.  Wished I had read that first.  Happy cleaning!

  • Here's mine and it's gross:
  • There'd be a lot of money in inventing a bath squirter that opened at a hinge to let water out but still worked as a squirter.

  • Yeah, it sucks. We had a bunch of spray toys for the bath, and I tosses them all. We now play with cups and cars and submarines in the tubby.

  • I checked one of them originally because I could tell there was a dark spot on one of them.  I have cut them all open and they were disgusting.  DD loved the squirting toys but we are going to switch over to some of the other toys people have suggested.

  • I just threw a few away too. I considered cleaning them, but it was just easier to toss them.
  • I chucked all of ours a while back when someone first posted about this. We only use cups and solid toys now.

  • I just sliced open the bellies of all our bath toys. Luckily no mold! (And they are still mostly functional with their bellies cut open. They won't squirt, but they still float.)
