Irregular Pap - Hope I am upset over nothing :(

So - last year when I went for my annual exam as an IVF requirement -my pap came back abnormal. Totally annoying because I had not had an irregular one in SEVEN years.

Anywho - after a culposcopy and close monitoring by my OB (a pap every 4 months), I just had another irregular (after going 15 months normal)

I know I sound dramatic, but I'm so upset about this. As if we haven't been challenged enough in the reproductive department, can't my lady bits just behave??

Plus, my mom had a hysterectomy at 31 because she kept getting such high grade irregularities. I realize medical technology has come a long way since then, but I can't help but freak out.

So I am going on the 18th for another culposcopy. I told my OB over the phone that I want to avoid a LEAP procedure at all costs.... and she said that unless the results came back with drastically worse/bad results than last time that she would continue to monitor me every 4 months the way she has been.

So my question; anyone had a leap and had IVF? did it effect anything in making you an IVF candidate? Not looking to do another fresh cycle but want to do an FET next summer.

Anyone been there done that?

I know I"m getting ahead of myself - but I'd rather know the facts now in advance.....

Big hugs hon, that sucks. I haven't done Ivf so I can't help there. But I've had 2 colpos, and been clear since the 2nd, in 2010. This is definitely unfair. I'm so sorry. FX for you.

Been there, done that!! I had years of abnormal paps, but I was just monitored with paps every 6 months and had occasional colpos to make sure it wasn't progressing to anything worse. One colpo result did come back a litte worse and we moved onto a LEEP. This all happened just as we were starting to TTC. My Dr said she'd rather me get the LEEP done at that point instead of having to deal with problems while I was pregnant, which I didn't realize would be so far away! So I had a close to 2 year gap before moving onto IVF, but it had no affect on any of our IF treatments. In fact, my RE said that it looked like I never even had a LEEP.

I suggest you ask lots of questions, maybe even get a second opinion and talk to your RE about it as well. But obviously, this is all IF a LEEP is even necessary!! I'm crossing my fingers that you don't even have to go there

How abnormal? CIN I, II or III? or will they not know that until after your colposcopy? Are you positive for hpv?

I'm sorry you're going through this. I had my post-partum pap test in February come back with high grade abnormalties and did end up needing a leep. I was, and am still, very upset and frightened by it as I plan on doing a FET sometime in the future. I've asked around on this board and a few others and there are women who have had leep procedures and gone on to have successful pregnancies, although some have had to have a cerclage.

((Bug hugs)) I know you're worried, but try to take it one day at a time. Wait for the information to come in and then you will have a better idea of what you need to think about and plan. I know that's a lot easier said than done! Fx you can avoid a LEEP.

I love my SAIF ladies. Thank you for all of the support, encouragement and stories. Yesterday was an ugly day for me; probably not warranted but sometimes it happens! So glad I had such helpful ladies to bring me down! And oops - I spelled LEEP wrong in my original post.
