Mumps outbreak near our home

Yesterday a mumps outbreak was announced, and it originated at a restaurant about 20 min frm my home. My dh and I were thinking how ironic it was that our response to my exh's cross motion arrived at the courthouse yesterday... Hopefully the judge is reading about this latest outbreak w his morning coffee, and then reading our papers in the afternoon!

  • Huh? I don't follow. What does mumps have to do with your case?

  • @ambrvan Her ex was against having the kid(s) vaccinated.

  • I think that the OP is the one who is fighting in court about immunizations with her ex.

  • And the scary thing, you can totally get over your small pox immunization. DH titered hoping that he would not need to get a booster before he went to Korea (why he did not get a booster during the 1st Gulf War is beyond me).  He was no longer immune.

The outbreak is a direct result of non-immunization.  I think it's perfect timing in your case.  If only the children who truly COULDN'T be immunized weren't, and everyone else was, we could see the elimination of these diseases, look at Smallpox.  I'm probably one of the only people here with a Smallpox vaccine scar.

Nope - I have one!  Even my younger sister did not get a smallpox vaccine.  It shows our age....
  • @Sigir, I really hope that you are able to get your DC vaccinated. That is so scary to me that she isn't. I was so looking forward to every doctors visit with DS because it meant he would get shots and be more protected. Good luck. Sending thoughts and prayers your way for a decent judge and outcome.

P.s. it sucks about the outbreak but it is good timing for your case!

  • My brother has the scar but it was stopped two years before I was born. Weird enough I am not sure if DH has it and do not think he does even though he is older than my brother but he grew up in England.

  • Wow, I totally missed this. Why on earth is he against vaccinations?

As a side note, I would totally just go to the doctor and get them vaccinated regardless of what anyone else said. Sue me later. You'd have to mow me down with a bulldozer to stop me. The only vaccine I was wary of was the swine flu vaccine when I was pregnant because it was new, but after some very plain thought, it would have been stupid not to have gotten it.
  • Ambvran I am almost certain she did just that and now he is taking to her to court to stop her from continuing.

  • I usually dont talk about it a lot bc I am paranoid about exh finding this board and spying, but I did not start vaxing, I went to court first. One of my exh's big beefs w me is that he thinks I sneak around and do things behind his back, and lie. I admit that it was hard for me to stand up to him at the beginning because of our history and unhealthy relationship, so it may have appeared tha way to him. I want to avoid any appearance of doing that now, so I took him to court first, because I thought this is the right thing to do.

The bolded... don't say that. You've jogged my memory a little now. Any perceptions he has are his problem, not your doing. Don't let him make you feel that way.

By way Sigir: I double dog dare you to tell your ex after the court date and you win (and I believe you will) that you believe with all your heart and soul that it was God intervening and having Mumps show up so close to your home that swayed the judge into granting you immunization. Being a little bitchy myself, I'd throw it in his face by smiling sweetly and say: "It was God's will." I am sending you many good thoughts and prayers.

  • There was a recent mumps outbreak in NJ as well. They traced it back to one bar (DJs if you are a Jersey Shore fan). Scary! Good luck at court!

  • OMG Wahoo, I had not heard that, maybe I need to read the APP instead of just. Looking at the front page. And do you mean Jersey Shore fan as in the show or the shore? If it is the show I had no idea they went there. I am old now and hated DJs back in the day, much more of an outside Bar A fan.

  • When I said Jersey Shore I meant the show since it seems like most of the people on this board are not from the East coast and would only have heard of DJais from he show....but I never watched the show and am a Jersey Shore (location) fan! 37 people came down with mumps after going there! I liked Bar A better, too. DJs was skanky even before Snooky!

  • Still not sure how I missed that, at least one person was from my town:(

Wahoo, I cannot remember if I knew where you live.  I am about 15 min from D'Jais.
