Rough morning

Day 4 of kindergarten was off to a rough start.  DD had a huge meltdown on the way out the door, and DH had to escort a sobbing child onto the bus.  The bus driver got her settled in her seat, and we crossed our fingers.  So far no call.  I think she's been trying so hard to do a good job that the anxiety finally got to her.  Thank goodness it's the weekend!

Re: Rough morning

  • Ouch, that's hard. I'm sure she'll be fine once she gets to school. Do you get daily reports? My DS is on his 5th day of school and he still goes off quite willingly and happily, but deteriorates rapidly while he's there. I think it's starting to sink in that this kindy thing this is "for real" and not nearly as much fun as preschool. His ASD teacher told me it usually takes until Thanksgiving for some kids to adjust to the new more rigorous schedule! Hang in there. We, too, are looking forward to the weekend!

No, I haven't heard from the teacher so far, but today was the first day that she's had a hard time. She has ADHD and SPD, but she doesn't have an IEP or 504 yet because everyone thought it best that we see how things go first. I had her evaluated through the school system last year, but she didn't qualify for any services. I feel like anxiety has a big impact on her ability to cope with things, but I don't know if we're going to be able to get any help from the school.
  • Okay, I guess she calmed down once she got to school. As hard as it was to put her on the bus in tears, I'm really glad we stuck with the routine.
