subchorionic hemorrhage

Last night I stood up and felt a gush, ran to the bathroom and there was dark red blood in my panties! I freaked and wiped and there was still red. I immediately went to the ER. After being there about an hour I went to the restroom and there was barely pink when I wiped. They did a pelvis exam and seen that the blood was indeed coming from my uterus and so I had an u/s. Thank god baby was ok, the tech let me hear the hb and it was 147 bpm. Dr told me it was a subchorionic hemorrhage and to just take it easy and pelvis rest until I could see my dr. I had stopped bleeding completely at the hossy. Got home late and started to spot again in the night. Called my dr this morning and he read my results from last night, my subchorionic hemorrhage is 3cm big which he said is pretty small and I needed to light duty bedrest/pelvis rest until my appt with him on Wednesday. He told me that brown and dark red blood was normal as was cramping but if I had bright red blood and alot of it I needed to call him or head to the ER. I am in nervous wreck here. He also told me most cases that are small like mine just resolve on their own and to not worry. I feel so stressed out over this, Im trying to stay calm because everything I read on dr google (big mistake I know) says they almost all resolve on their own and the ones that dont are very large. Any ladies have experience with these? I asked my dr how long will I bleed he said could be days, weeks or months. Also I am 13w1d today.

Re: subchorionic hemorrhage

  • You are not alone! I have what they are calling a peri gestational hemorrhage, that had actually gotten bigger in the last six weeks. But baby is growing well, so that is good. Yes, I am on modified bedrest. My midwife warned that if I exacerbated it it could cause an abruption. Don't google! It doesn't seem like there is a lot of helpful info for hemorrhages as early as we are. I am 13 w 4 d...

  • I had a small one at 6 weeks. It was gone by 8 weeks. Mine was 1.2 cm. I agree, bleeding is scary during pregnancy. It was comforting to know that my doctor wasn't too concerned.

  • Hope everything is alright!
  • Search SCH on here. I had the exact same thing last Saturday and freaked out. The ladies on here were very supportive and informative! I don't know how big mine is since the damn hospital didn't send the scans to my dr even though they are in the same building!! It is so scary though seeing blood when all you've ever heard is blood=problem. I bled for most of the night Saturday with several clots then it stopped and started back up Tuesday night with heavy brown bleeding. My dr said it was good that it is brown because that is old blood and your body needs o just get rid of it. I've been trying to just wrap my head around the idea that bleeding might be my new normal but its a big mind game! I did search it on our board and there were quite a few posts that helped. I have found that when I lay around the cramping eases up.
  • How scary!  Glad you are ok - I hope the bleeding stops soon for you!!

  • I had a larger one with DS, but I had one with this pregnancy as well. It already bled itself out already. DS was consider 'threaten miscarriage' which scared the crap out of me after having 3 miscarriages previously, but that also bled itself out. With DS they placed me on pelvic rest and with this pregnancy they didn't put me on pelvic rest because the subchorionic bleed was already dissolving. You are not alone! ((Hugs)) T&P coming your way!

  • I had one as well that was about the same size as yours.  I had a lot of cramping with mine as well (blood is an irritant), so try not to worry too much unless it's accompanied by red blood.I was on pelvic rest weeks 5 - 12.  I had spotting and bleeding constantly in the first tri - I know how stressful and terrifying it can be and I'm so sorry you're going through this!  Just take it really easy - no lifting, exercise, carrying groceries, anything - and drink LOTS of water.

I made a really conscious effort to not do anything strenuous at all (didn't even carry my laptop bag at work or take the stairs and my husband brought in all of the groceries for a few weeks) and I think it helped keep things calm and heal.  At our 12 week NT scan they couldn't find it and believe mine has resolved.  Sometimes when we're used to always being on the go it's hard to slow down or let other people do things for us - but keep in mind your first priority is keeping your little womb tenant healthy :)
  • I had one as well. I woke up in the middle of the night to feeling something wet on the bed. It was blood that had soaked through my underwear, sheets, and mattress and it had a clot with it. Thankfully it was a SCH. I stopped spotting after about 2 weeks, however, it is still showing on my ultrasound. You are not alone. I also googled it. Big mistake.
