Sleeping with Maternity Support Belt

I am going out and buying a maternity support belt today because I've been having a lot of back pain.  But the pain is worst when I am lying down (I don't think my body likes side-sleeping).  I was wondering if wearing the maternity belt to sleep would help with this or if it is more meant for when you are standing up.  Any thoughts?

Re: Sleeping with Maternity Support Belt

  • I don't think it'd be very comfy for sleeping. It was good for me last time when I was still working and walking a lot (lived/worked in NYC at the time), but too constricting to lay down with it on. I haven't found a fool proof formula yet, but basically surrounding myself with a fort of pillows (tucking them under my belly and right up to my back) helps take the pressure off the back/hips a bit.

  • I have a boppy wedge pillow from my last pregnancy that supported my belly when side sleeping. Havent tried the belt, so I can't speak to that

  • I don't think the maternity belt would be very helpful laying down.  It is mostly just a support from the weight of your belly standing.  I agree that you should probably just try a pillow or wedge under your belly.  I have to use a pillow or I have awful back and hip pain the next morning.
