Down Syndrome Birth Story

Hello to everyone! My name is Kelsey and I just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy last month (July 25). He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome at birth. I have created a blog to raise awareness, and to hopefully help other mothers out there that may be going through the same things as I did. I am very honest with my emotions in my blog, especially for my most recent post : Anthony's Birth Story. Please read my story, and pass it along to help raise awareness that a diagnosis of Down Syndrome is not the end of the world. Instead, it is the beginning of a bigger and better world than you could have ever imagined!

    Thank you for sharing your story. Yoir story hits home as my DH's cousin just gave birth to a baby girl with down syndrome in June. I wish you, your DH and baby Anthony all the best.

    As someone who works with developmentally disabled adults for a living I have to applaud you! It's parents like you who help to shape wonderful adults in the program I work for. I have seen both sides, and I have to say the people who have the families who love and support them have a much better time learning to overcome their disabilities and are some of the most incredible people I have ever met!

    What an amazing story.  This is provide such a source of comfort for other families.  He is a lucky boy for having such an amazing mom!

    Your son is adorable.  I love the picture at the end, he is so waving at everybody!!

    Your wee man is the most previous gift and reading your blog it seems he has been delivered to the perfect parents who will love him and raise him to enjoy a great life.

    I just wanted to say congratulations on your son.  I, too, just had a child with Down Syndrome.  I did not know until she was born.  One of the NICU doctors sat us down on day of life 4 (my twins were born on a Monday, DoL 4 was a Thursday) to tell us that she thought our daughter showed some physical characteristics.  We found out the following Monday that she was in fact diagnosed based on confirmation through blood analysis. It was a shock considering all of our first trimester screening showed no increased risk and everything came back "normal".  She is an absolute blessing along with her brother, who does not have DS. 
    Began TTC #1 in January 2011
    Confirmation and Removal of Endo - March 2012
    +#1 on 4/1/12 - m/c @ ~8w 5d
    +#2 Tx cycle 4 - 5 mg Letrozole + 75iu Follsitim & Ovidrel w/ IUI on 11/13/12 - EDD 7/23/13 
    7 week u/s revealed THREE babies, all with heartbeats.  153bpm, 148bpm, and 136bpm
    9 week u/s revealed loss of Baby B.  A and C are growing on track.  A measuring 9w1d with 172bpm and C measuring 9w0d with 179 bpm.  
    Elective sex determination u/s on 2/8 revealed... boy AND girl!

    One of my great friends just had a baby who has down syndrome. I'm going to pass your blog along to her, I'm sure she would enjoy reading a similar story to hers, knowing the feelings she had and you had are completely normal. Thank you so much for sharing. He's completely adorable.
