Refuses Bottle

Hey friends!  I haven't posted on here in FOREVER but i'm looking for some help.  I'm back to work now and even after trying for MONTHS K won't take a bottle.  She just refuses to eat for 8-9 hours all week.  Thoughts?  Anyone else experience something similar and had it work out eventually or did you try something new?  We've tried pretty much every bottle, every person & different times of day.  I'm exclusively breastfeeding.  She's perfectly happy during the day but it would be super helpful if she just accepted a bottle :)

Re: Refuses Bottle

  • I had, continue to have, trouble getting LO to take a bottle. Nothing as extreme as what you are going through. She's not in DC yet but we are practicing with a bottle every few days. Sometimes she will scream and cry and will not take it. When she's that bad it's hopeless and we stop trying. I've found she does better when she's not too hungry. I've nursed her first and then switched to a bottle which has worked. The funny thing is, once she will take a bottle it doesn't seem to matter which kind.

  • We had look with the first years bottle because of the smaller nipple.
  • Smellychelly, the Breastflow one???  I had horrible luck with that one with my DD#1 but was thinking about trying it anyway.

  • I had this problem right before I went back to work. Here is what I did
    1. I did a dream feed with a bottle - she then took the bottle awake for a day and that was it
    2. I use a hairdryer as white noise - hold it in my hands while feeding her - rocked her and sang to her all while trying to get her to take the bottle. She would get herself so worked up it was a mess.

I did this a few times and since then - no trouble. GL. I know how frustrating and upsetting this can be. My DD went 6-7 hours  and this was when she was still waking every 2-3 hours in the night to eat.
