C-section vs vaginal

Hi!

I'm currently 28 weeks with di/di girls and just got back from a doctors appt. Both girls are head down and pretty low so I was excited to be able to have the possibility to try vaginal birth, if they don't flip again. My doctor said that its definitely possible but then followed with all the horror story possibilities of something going wrong for the second twin during vaginal delivery. How many of you had a successful vaginal delivery?And how many had complications that lead to a c-section for second baby?

    I had one head up and one head down...Baby A DS was head down so the doctor said we could try vaginal. I had a hard time making the decision but did end up scheduling a c-section at 38 weeks. It'd be interesting to see a percentage of women who actually end up going through with that scheduled c-section vs. giving birth on their own. I developed HELLP at 36w1d and the doctors decided to deliver ASAP. They gave me the choice again of laboring or c-section. At that point I was so scared I just wanted to get the babies born safely ASAP and did the c-section. Perhaps if conditions were perfect meaning both head down and I made it to 38 weeks and there were no health issues I would have tried to labor but at that point I was pretty freaked out.

    An mfm told me that if you have one vaginal, there's a 90% chance you'll have the other one vaginal as well.

    My Baby A was breech plus his cord prolapsed when my water broke, so c/s was non negotiable.

    My MFM said that in 20 years he has only had to deliver one set of twins with vaginal & c/s. I was going to try vaginal but ended up having to have the c/s due to complications. Only a week out so jury is still out on how hard the recovery will be. I know I am not taking it as easy as I should be but with the boys in the NICU, it is just impossible.

    Mine were both head down, and I successfully delivered them both vaginally. 

    Is your OB comfortable with a breech extraction if Baby B happens to flip after you deliver Baby A?

    They always tell you the worst case scenarios. It's important to know what could happen to make informed decisions. That said, despite all the horror stories, I had an amazing double vag delivery. Good luck!

    Both of my twins were head down and stayed head down.  DS's water broke @ 32w causing the delivery.  He was born then they broke DD's water, and were pushing on the top of my uterus to get her to move down.  Did a quick u/s to make sure she was still head down then started pushing.  She was smaller than DS so she came out quickly.  They are 17 min apart.  I was very happy with my vaginal birth experience and thankful I was able to deliver that way.

    My boys were head down and I had a vaginal delivery. Baby B went into distress (we think his cord was being compressed during contractions) but by then I was 10cm so I started pushing. Since we needed B out ASAP he was an assisted delivery, meaning after A was born the doctor reached in and pulled him down into position. He was born 5 minutes after his brother and was completely fine.

    Just had both of mine vaginally,yesterday. 36w1d. Both were head down at my 30 & 34w ultrasounds. B was bigger, weight wise, than A but it was pretty easy once B got into the canal. B was born sunny side up, which we didnt expect, but it was not a big deal! Good luck to you.

    I had di/di girls and delivered them vaginally! I was also very nervous about a double whammy but thankfully that didn't happen.  I would definitely ask the doctor is she/he is comfortable with breech extraction and if she is, who else is at the hospital in case she's not around.  My delivery dr from my practice ended up delivering the twins BUT she would not do a breech extraction, so she brought in another doctor who was experienced with it, to help in case we needed her.   I pushed for that!!

    Thank you so much! I feel so much better! I have my first MFM appointment next week so I will talk to them about it also :)
