C-sections

Normal?

I had twins 8 days ago via c-section and don't have a follow up appointment until Monday, hoping you ladies can help in the meantime. My incision looks to be healing well and I have no pain there but I have pain on my left side above the incision and it feels hard and lumpy here. I'm guessing it has to do with internal sutures but it doesn't seem to be getting better. Does this just need more time, or is there reason for concern?

Another random thing is that I suddenly have a hard lump in my armpit, guessing it is a swollen lymph node. Has anyone else had this happen? TIA!

Re: Normal?

  • Dr told me to call if there was any concern. Things she told me to be watchful of were incision (or area surrounding) turning an angry red or a sudden spike in fever. I agree that the lump under your arm is probably a swollen lymph node. IMO, I would call if you feel uneasy about waiting until Monday.

  • I would call about the swollen lymph node. Your doctor may want to order some blood work to check for infection. I would definitely call and push up your follow up. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I had//have some small lumps under my skin on my belly but the are not hard and feel like tiny cysts.
  • I had the exact same pain. Right from the beginning my pain was never at the incision, it was always above and to the left. It didn't really get better until about 3.5 weeks pp. Now at 4.5 week pp I still have a bit of pain above the incision(I think nerve pain) that kind of feels like something is scratching my skin if I touch it. I have harder spots at either end of my incision and my midwife told me it is scar tissue. Could be what you're describing(hard and lumpy spots), but I don't know how quickly scar tissue forms.
  • Thanks.

Wallace, I'll try compresses this weekend.

Leanne, maybe it does have something to do with the nerves. I have no feeling in the skin on that side either.
