We are having laser surgery at 1pm today to try to separate the blood vessels that our girls share. The docs don't think it's TTTS, which is actually devastating, because it means that Baby B likely has IUGR due to insufficient placental share. We feel like we need to try to do something to protect Baby A if Baby B does not make it, but also allow Baby B to continue to fight on her designated placental share. It also means that I will be on bed rest for however long our pregnancy continues. The biggest risk of the procedure is preterm labor, in which case, neither baby will survive.

I'm praying for so many things right now. I'm praying for peace in this decision. I'm praying that we are, by some miracle, in the 60% of cases where both babies survive, but even that feels greedy. Dear God, please give us at least 1. I'm praying that somehow, someday both of these little girls know how loved they are and that their mommy and daddy are trying to do what we think is best for them.

oh my gosh Kata - I will be thinking of you and praying so hard for you today. We will all be here for you throughout your bed rest the remainder of this pregnancy. I do not think it is selfish at all to pray to be in the 60% success rate - of course you would pray for that!!! I will be praying for that as well. So much love your way.

Big hugs and prayers! I was in a similar position almost 2 years ago but no laser surgery because I was a little further along and it wasn't offered. They had stage I TTTS improved with rest and protein shakes but donor baby was IUGR with absent and reverse end diastolic flow. Hospital bed rest for monitoring at 24w and delivered at 28w. There's still a fair size difference between them but they are both healthy boys now. I hope that both your babies will make it through surgery successfully and continue growing inside as along as possible.
