Diapers leaking out the back?

I'm hoping someone else has some insight into this. For the past few days DS has been peeing and it leaks out the back of the diaper all over the PnP or bassinet sheet or person he's being held by it doesn't get the front of the diaper wet, it literally goes up his side and back and soaks whatever is under him.

We've tried making the diapers tighter and making sure the leg areas are snug. We have no idea what is causing this. I've literally had to wash the bassinet pad every day. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm pretty sure it's happened in Huggies and Pampers.

Maybe try another brand and or switching to the next size up.

Go up a size.

When they start leaking, it is typically because the diapers are either not long enough or baby is peeing too much for the diaper to hold. Going up a size usually helps.

He's under 7lbs and these say they're good for up to 10 lbs. I'm afraid the next size up will be too big.

Pounds really isn't a good judgement for diapers. My friends baby is 3 pounds lighter and is 5x as chubby and is past my LOs size in diapers. I agree try going up.

We had the same problem
With the Huggies brand, it would leak through the legs and get whatever he was wearing wet just around the leg and back. Switched to pampers swaddlers and have no more leak problems

I hate and absolutely hate Huggies! Everytime LO poops it leaks out all over. We were gifted two jumbo boxes of Huggies, which I am grateful for, but once we run out I will be trying a different brand.

No wonder Huggies are always on sale... :-w

My children outgrew their diapers way before the weight limit. Instead, look at the next size.

Ones are usually 8-14lbs, so that is a good bet. Twos are 13-18lbs. My children move up a size a lb or two before the lower limit. So they were in size two at 11lbs. (Very long torsos in our family.)

Make sure his penis is pointed down! We had all kinds of crazy leaking happening with DS1 before we were told that rule!

Guess we'll switch to Pampers tomorrow! Hopefully he can make it through the night without soaking himself.

We had lots of leaks early on because of the gauze & Vaseline for his circumcision. Not sure if this is the case with you, but once we stopped, no more leaks.

I'm realizing that was when it happened with Pampers. But it happens with Huggies w/o all the gauze. That definitely contributed to it the other day!

We had the same exact problem and realized it was because his penis was not pointing down. Now that we point it down before we secure the diaper it has not happened again. We still use the same diapers as before.

Sometimes its the brandalso i am convinced. I was gifted a bunch of size one target brand diapers. They are aweful i always wind up with pee on me while wearing ds. I didnt have this problem with the pampers swaddlers. I cant wait for those stupid diapers to be gone

I agree with trying the next size up. We used both Huggies and Pampers and for us the Pampers were terrible but the Huggies were great, we've also been using Costco brand that were given to us (they aren't the nicest feeling but they hold it all in!). It's really different for every baby! And yes, make sure everything is pointed down.

I also had this. When puting on the diaper make sure his penis is pointing down. Haven't had a problem since!

I like pampers swaddlers- only diapers in the newborn phase that I prefer.

Try going up a size. Weights don't always matter, length may also have something to do with it.

Sorry for the hijack but does anyone have a suggestion for a diaper in between pampers newborn and size 1? LO has a small waist that fits newborn but her thighs are too chunky for them. Huggies size 1 are too bulky it seems and she's leaked up the back on both Huggies and Pampers size 1's, so get must be too loose in the waist.
