Searching for OBGYN in the Alpharetta area... Also Piedmont vs. Northside Forsyth delivery

Hello! I am not pregnant at the time but my husband and I are looking to start trying in December. I want to go ahead and try a new Dr. for my yearly exam coming up. Can you recommend a Dr. you have used throughout a pregnancy? I work in Buckhead so anywhere off 400 would work. Also I am interested to hear feedback from women that delivered at Piedmont and Northside Forsyth Hospitals. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Re: Searching for OBGYN in the Alpharetta area... Also Piedmont vs. Northside Forsyth delivery

  • I'm with Women's Health Associates, right near Northside Hospital:

I have Dr. Sun and I really like the practice.  I have friends who are patients with this group as well...  Dr. Sun is great!

  • I'm pretty sure you will get great reviews for both Piedmont and Northside.

I personally delivered at Piedmont with Dr. Combs from Piedmont OB-Gyn.  Had a wonderful experience and couldn't ask for anything better.

  • I had my son at North Side it was a great experience! I enjoyed my stay and my room was nice, clean and specious. You should tour both places and decide for yourself.

Have you considered looking into midwives? Roswell OBGYN has a location in Alpharetta and Dunwoody. They have both doctors and midwives.. They were so friendly, understanding and knowledgeable. I highly recommend a midwife if you're looking for a vaginal birth.

Ultimately think about what would be your ideal pregnancy and birth experience and go from there.

I delivered my first and will deliver my second with this same practice, different OB. You rotate through everyone before you deliver and I didn't have issues with anybody.
It's an all-female, all-OB/GYN practice, which is my preference.
I've heard positive reviews about Northside but also that they are a baby factory and may rush to C-section. That was not my experience at Piedmont but I can't speak first hand about Northside.
  • I go to obgyn of Atlanta. I see the midwives but there are doctors there too. I deli reed at Northside with both boys. The first time my post partum care was great. The second time was not thrilled with the post partum care. They were super busy. He was born on the day the most babies are born in the US. No nurses were anywhere to be found. With that bring said I loved labor and delivery both times at Northside.

  • I go to Northpoint OBGYN. Saw the midwives and was delivered by one of them with my daughter. This go round, do to a higher risk I see the Doctors. They are all nice. I delivered at Northside Forsyth. TH L&D nurses were all really nice. No complaints
  • I delivered at Peidmont and highly recommend it. I think Northside and Peidmont are both good, the difference is that Northside is way bigger and way busier. I look at Peidmont as more of a "boutique" hospital. There just weren't that many mothers/babies around while we were there. I go to Atlanta Women's OBGYN. It is fine, never had a problem. But i wouldnt rave about it like i did about the hospital. There are 6 female doctors, and like PP said, you never know who you will get. That is basically the deal when you live in the city. GL!

@LC122, it is a pet peeve of mine when people refer to Northside as a "baby factory" or that they rush to C-sections. If you don't know first-hand, maybe you should not comment on it. I thought this too because of the reputation, but I talked to my doctor about it, and she cleared up some misconceptions.

Northside (the main one at Perimeter) does have a high C-section rate compared to other hospitals, but it's because all of the high-risk and other emergency deliveries are done at this hospital because they are the most experienced. If someone is delivering at another hospital in Georgia and something goes terribly wrong and they cannot handle it at the local hospital, they are brought to Northside.

My doctors are with Atlanta Women's Health Group (AWHG - Meera Garcia and a group of other OBGYNs in the same practice), and they are fabulous. They will listen to you and respect your wishes for the delivery. I did not want a C-section unless medically necessary, and they absolutely listened to me, and they made it clear that they didn't want that either. I actually had some mild complications because my baby had meconium, but the doctor handled it perfectly, and I delivered a healthy baby boy vaginally and according to my birth plan. The post-delivery care was amazing, and I would definitely recommend this practice and this hospital.

AWHG also has offices in Alpharetta, so you can choose the Perimeter or Alpharetta location. It was a good fit for me and my family. I encourage you to really talk with the OBGYNs and make sure you are comfortable with their methods and their philosophies. Whether you deliver at Northside or anywhere else, the doctor who delivers your baby will most likely be with the practice you choose, so you can ask about the C-section rates and other things like that for your specific practice and for normal deliveries rather than making generalizations about a hospital.

  • Try Dr.gerber. Hamilton mill women
  • I really like Dr Meera Garcia. She has an office at the big Northside medical offices off old Milton parkway. She also has office in Atlanta. Have been happy with her and her partners.
  • Thank you all for the advice and information!! I ended up making an appointment with my same office but I am trying a different Dr. I really like the practice but the Dr. I saw last year acted like she could care less about me because I wasn't pregnant and at the time, I wasn't looking to get pregnant any time soon. (Dr. Petchenik) This time I am seeing Dr. Gumer. Appointment is today at 4:00. I've got my list of questions to ask..... wish me luck!
