Midnight Fridge Raiding Madness

I'm at 8w2d. One of the tips for nausea is to eat a snack before bed, which I do around 10pm or so along with my fistful of supplements. I then go to bed. At around 3 or 4 am I awake with severe hunger. I don't just mean grumbling; I mean if I don't eat something right away I feel like I will die of starvation. I've never felt hunger like this before. I know people talk about this hunger in 2nd and 3rd trimester but anyone else having this in 1st? I keep a protein bar and saltines in my bedside drawer to eat when I wake up in the middle of the night. It's a bit ridiculous.

  • I get like this too! One of my first symptoms! Maybe try a late night snack with more protein? I keep granola bars by the bed too!!!

  • Glad to hear that I'm not alone. It really is starting to freak me out. I've tried all kinds of evening snacks, everything from beef jerky to ice cream. I have horrible nausea during the day but in the mornings I typically feel pretty good. I'm finding it really hard to go back to sleep after the hunger wake up. I thought maybe I was just really thirsty but drinking water didn't make the hunger go away and I just had to pee even more often.

  • @figgs0831 you're expecting twins! are you as well @homediva? multiples run on my husband's side of the family and I've been fretting over the possibility of twins and this being related. I don't see the the OB for another 2 weeks. So hard not knowing!

  • I've been getting that, too. Multiple times this week, I've had to get up between 3-4 to go get a spoon of peanut butter. That's helped and gotten me feeling not panicky from hunger and able to sleep, but it's getting old. Seriously considering keeping a small jar of peanut butter in my nightstand.

That is reassuring! Not that twins would be a bad thing but I think one has me freaked out enough ;)

I'd need more than water if I ate peanut butter in the middle of the night. It's bad enough I have to take out my bite guard and re-brush my teeth after my snack. Going downstairs to get milk would mean giving up on going back to sleep and starting my work day at 5am.

  • Someone said beef jerky and now I can't stop thinking about it. lol
  • Yep, definitely have been experiencing the same thing!  I try to keep some crackers or dry cereal, and a glass of water by my  bed so I can eat a few bites and fall back asleep without actually getting up.
