Being a human pacifier

So last night I got maybe 3 hours sleep. DD wanted to use me as a pacifier. Anytime, I would take away my nipple, even if I tried to give her her pacifier, she would scream. I guess it wouldn't be that big of a deal if I didn't have such large breasts. because of their size I have to hold them back from her nose so she doesn't smother her. Hopefully, she doesn't do this again but if she does any tips how to get her to stop? I'm not into CIO. She's almost 8 months...

Re: Being a human pacifier

  • Are you able to side-lie nurse? I confess that my boobs are small, so I can't offer advice of that nature.

If you can wear a sleep bra to keep the top one restrained, the bottom one can be out and supported by the mattress. Put a pillow behind your back and lean until the top boob isn't a danger. So your position would be a cross between side and back lying.

At 8mo do you think she could get away if a boob started to smush her?

  • DS did this when he was growing and teething. I've found that once he's super asleep, his mouth will slack a bit and I can carefully remove my nipple. I do sleep very well with him latched, though, so it's really only an issue for me if I want to roll onto my back.

If you did not hold your breast back for her, do you think she'd unlatch and use your breast as a pillow so that she can breathe? DS would pull away in his sleep if he was unable to breathe.

I'm only a D, so I don't have much advice about the large breasts issue except to ask if you could try to position your breast so that it doesn't cover her nose but also doesn't have to be held. If a nose is squished from above, baby can still breathe (you can try it on yourself too: if you push down on the tip of your nose with your finger, your nostrils are still open and you can breathe). If the nose is covered up from underneath, baby can't breathe.

  • It IS when I'm side lying. But I nurse her with my top boob haven't tried with my bottom. But that's a good suggestion. Unfortunately, my boob squishes her nose from the bottom, and I think she would pull away if she was suffocating but then she would cry because my nipple wouldn't be in her mouth. It was just very frustrating that she wouldn't really sleep with out my nipple in her mouth.

My boobs aren't big enough to nurse from the top unless I'm almost lying on top of her! Good luck! Hope you get some rest.

  • Yeah having large boobs sucks. I was a C/D before I got pregnant. Now they are huge balloons :(,

  • Honestly that's when I transitioned by baby to the crib. We coslept for 7 months but the thing is that I wasn't a good mom during the day because I was so tired. I am a back sleeper and wasn't able to get any sleep.
