Please tell me it's normal...

...for baby to want NOTHING to do with his crib/pnp/anything that is supposed to be used for bed time. DS is only 5 days old, but I hear so many people saying how theirs were perfectly fine in their cribs from night one. I am ok if baby wakes up every 1-2 hours, even every 30 mins! DS won't even give it 5 mins and I am a nervous wreck to even attempt bed sharing because of SIDS (actually I'm a nervous wreck about SIDS). That is the only time he'll sleep is if he's in my arms or on the breast. Must be a FTM thing, but I have no idea what to do, or if it's normal. TIA!

The first few weeks is survival mode! We let DD sleep wherever she would! We now bed share!

Have you tried swaddling then rocking with some white noise? I have found that this has really helped DD fall asleep much faster and we are able to put her down in the bassinet without her stirring.

My babies have never wanted to sleep alone in a crib for the first few weeks. It's normal. Dont get frustrated yet!

Completely normal. Do you have a swing? Our lo was happiest when she was swaddled and in the swing.

I had spent many nights with my son either sleeping on my chest while I reclined in a recliner or in his swing. It's about whatever works to get you some sleep so you can function.

Completely normal! DS slept on our chests in the recliner the first couple of weeks. We also had the rock'n'play too, it works wonders!

This is my third and even though I went through this twice before, it's still a shocker at the time. We let DD sleep in her carseat,like we did with Dd1.

Thank you so much everyone! I completely agree with those who used the word "survival" because that is exactly what if feels like.

I will also take everyone's suggestions and see what works!

RnPs are banned here in Canada, I had to go through hell to find one.. But it seriously saved my sanity. The first weeks are about surviving do what you got to do. Bed sharing can be safe as long as you take the precautions.

The RnP has been my savior! My 7 week old really won't sleep in anything else (except my arms) for a long stretch. She has taken small naps in her PnP and crib though.

I used to lay with baby next to me on her side. I believe just my smell would calm her. I waited until she was sleeping for a few min and transfer her to her napper in the PnP.

When we first brought LO home she had difficulty sleeping too, we used the arms reach cosleeper [But I too was paranoid about SIDS - the first few nights I don't think I got more than 10 minutes of sleep at a time (ya know, for a whole 2 hours) because I kept waking to be sure LO was still breathing]. After a few nights she started doing fine sleeping. So I seem to be a fortunate FTM with that.

However, I do totally agree with the PP's, first few weeks is survival and doing what your LO needs, and what you can to keep your sanity. Swaddling is also a lifesaver, my MIL showed us how important it was and I've used it ritualistically ever since.You can look up the fourth trimester as well, it has some interesting viewpoints on how your baby is responding to the world outside the womb and what will probably help her with sleeping.

White noise machines are great too.

My DD wanted nothing to do with sleeping flat. We had some luck with the swing but ultimately got the most success out of the rock and play. I suggest trying those two items b/c like PPs have said, its all about survival the first few wks!

I really encourage you to do some research on safe bedsharing. Many exhausted new parents end up falling asleep on the couch/chair/recliner, which is far, far more dangerous than properly executed bedsharing, which has actually been proven to reduce the possibility of SIDS.
