Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

My electric bill is going to be high this month

Alexander is so tall that he can now easily reach the light switches on the walls (that I thought were kind of high). The last few days, as soon as it gets a little dark, he walks around the house turning every light on. After he flips the switch, he yells "ON!" like he's completed a job that I assigned to him. When I turn them off, he chases behind me and turns them back on. I need to stop laughing when he does this but it is funny.

Every day it's something new. I kind of love it.

  • We just moved and the microwave is now in a cubby under the counter...perfect 1 year old height.  DS loves to turn it on. He'll push a button, wait for it to run the cycle and then start it up again.  At least he hasn't figured out how to open it yet...We will be moving it to the pantry soon and putting the wine cooler in its place.  No fun buttons on that thing!

  • I hear you on that..between him and 24/7 AC because of the weather and our apartment staying like a suana... my electric bills are ICK

My buttmunchie is like a ninja if you forget to close the folding doors to the laundry area in our apt.  I can't even count the times he has stopped my washer mid cycle  and I have had to start over...  he can turn it on and off.. twists the wash cycle dial and pushes all the other settings buttons ,,it's fun for him as they light up and make bing bing noises.

I swear he can clear the length of my living room the second he hears you go to do laundry and he is there before you can switch a load from the washer to the dryer which stand side by side.  I love my front loaders .. but unfortunately so does the munchkin.  I have had that dang door slammed on me so many times, pushed out of the way so he can get in and see whats in there.  He has the sneakiest lil grin as he runs towards you too... can't help but laugh because he knows he is being a butt.

He was such a freak over the vaccum we bought him a stick vaccuum which is a perfect working miniature if you remove the stick handle ( we specifically chose one with no moving/spinning parts in the head before anyone worries about lil fingers... or wants to get one for their LO..)

.. soon as he learns his colors from whites I am teaching him how to do laundry lol.  I aint raising me no momma boy who can't take care of himself lol

In all seriousness though...right now he cant open the washer/dryer doors, but as soon as he can I am adding extra handles to the folding doors to install a baby lock.  Even though it's in full view of  pretty much everywhere since the apartment isn't huge.. I'm not risking him climbing in.. he is WAY too nosey already. It only takes a split second for @#$@#$ to happen.

    Gotta love these kids

  • @Wipz Our FL washer and dryer have a child lock option that keeps them from being able to change the settings. There's just one button you press and hold for 3 seconds, and then the letters CL show up on the display. He can still push buttons and swirl the dial to his heart's content, but it doesn't change they cycles. Have you checked to see if yours have them?

We have a FL dryer and a TL washer but the controls are on the top, like a traditional washer/dryer. It also has the childlock setting but it always made me shake my head because the placement is such that you would have to have a child the size of an 8 year old to reach them and by that age, they'd know how to change it anyway!

  • It does .... but if I put that on hubby will never be able to do laundry  LOL :))

Usually it's only when we are actually trying to do laundry that munchkin is a terror/ very helpful.. otherwise the doors are closed and he rarely opens them himself because he traps his fingers and he isn't so keen on that bit.
