Pumping Frustration

I've been back to work for a few weeks now, pumping every 3 hours or so until I'm back with LO and I'm just not getting enough to send him to daycare with. I'm so frustrated. I'm taking Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, drinking lots of water, eating oatmeal in the morning, pumping after his feedings at home and still I'm making half of what he needs. Honestly it doesn't bother me to give him formula, it just bothers me that I'm trying everything and getting no where!

Anyone have any other suggestions of what I can try? Or anyone just in the same boat? Everyone I know doesn't seem to have this problem...

Re: Pumping Frustration

  • How much is he being fed at daycare? Maybe it's too much? Otherwise remember a lot is mental, so look at pictures of your baby and relax :)

  • I've wondered about that too but now multiple people have watched him (DH has a always changing schedule) and everyone has come to the same consensus, little one needs 17oz to get him through the 10 hours even with a slow flow nipple, paced feedings etc. You're right about relaxing though, I'm sure it's not helping to obsess  :)
  • @amtobey I haven't thought of that! I need to go do some research, thank you!
  • Power pumping? Domperidone?
  • I'd try different size flanges- I originally used one size, and decided to try out a smaller size- my production doubled! I also massage while pumping, and as cheesy as it sounds cheer on my boobs mentally- "Go booobs! Feed the baby!" And DO NOT look at the bottles the whole time- it's stressful!

  • Have you done a weighted feed with an lc?
  • I have had a lot of success with taking 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast (along with fenugreek and oatmeal). It is gross, but I mix it with 20 oz of water twice a day (1 tablespoon per 20 oz) and chug it. My production doubled after a couple of days! Also, have you changed the membranes? That helped me too.

  • How often should you change membranes?

  • @achae I haven't done a weighted feeding with a lc since he was around 3 weeks old because I'm pretty confident he's getting enough when he's actually nursing, it's just the pumping when I'm not getting enough.

@mamainVA2013 I'll try the brewers yeast! Also the different sized flanges, anything that might help :)
