Impending induction, full hospital...

I had my 40 week appt today, and given my high risk (Lupus) my OB wants to go ahead and schedule an induction. The problem is the amazing birthing center in our area only has 11 rooms and people are coming from far and wide because the other nearby hospitals don't provide private rooms. So I'm sitting here waiting for a call with my date and time! And very nervous, both my mom and my mil had failed inductions that led to CS after 20+ hours of labor. That was 30 years ago, so there has been a lot of progress, but my OB is still mentally preparing me for a Long labor. Any positive induction experiences?

In a very rural area in md. People drive 2 hours and come past other hospitals to deliver at this bc. I'm very lucky it is 5 minutes away!

Well, if by positive you mean no cs, then yes, mine was positive... Otherwise, it was hard, not gonna lie! Mine lasted 24 hours start to finish.

Cytotec overnight, put icon started about 14 hours after the first cytotec pill was placed. If I have one tip for you, don't try to be a hero. From my experiences, inductions are harder on your body, and more painful. Take IV meds, get the epi etc if things are progressing too slowly and you are in pain. For me, after 17 hours of pain, I was still only 3cm. I knew that I'd never have the energy to push a baby out if things kept going like that. Got the epi, took a nap, and 4 hours after the epi I was at 10cm. You do need to be able to relax your body for it to progress, and being without pain helps!!!

Google 'Bishop Score' that will give you a pretty good indication of how well your body will receive an induction. Your mom and MILs experience with labor have no bearing on yours, so don't worry over that unnecessarily. Good luck and I hope it goes well for you.

Also in NYC. You can pay extra for a private room at some hospitals, but some, like mine, don't offer it at all. I think there's just too many people to have enough rooms. My hospital can handle 60-something maternity patients at a time, and there have been a few times where even that wasn't enough. We can labor in private, but recovery rooms are shared.

Good look op! I hope you get your call soon. I have no experience though. I know my mom was induced with her youngest and all went fine. She didn't even get an epidural (but she did use Stadol).

I had an induction with DD, and it went very smoothly. I went in to register at 6 am, started cervidil at 7 am, and pitocin later that afternoon around 1. Doctor broke my water around 4pm, and I had her shortly after 8 that night. Everyone's body will react differently, but hopefully that will give you some relief knowing that it can go smoothly. I had a great induction with DD. I went in the night before and got cervadil around 10:30pm (probably 2cm and 85% if I remember correctly) by 1am my water had broke, contractions were regular and I didn't need pit. I was complete by 12 noon and DD was born at 2pm. It was a great experience.

Where I live you don't always get private rooms either. My first day with DS I did, the second day I had a roommate.

As for positive induction stories I was 41 weeks, had cervadil at 8 pm, began Pitocin at 8 am the next morning and had DS at about 4:30 pm. The labor was fine, delivery was tough only because he turned his head, nothing to do with the induction.

I had two successful inductions. Both boys were born healthy. DS1 was born in 13 hours of the induction. I had cervidil and petocin. DS2 was born within 6 hours of the induction. It only took the cervidil to kick start my labor. Overall, I had two positive inductions and my next one is scheduled for 9/16. Good Luck!

I am in MD too, but in between Annapolis and Baltimore. I have no experience, but I want to wish you the best of luck! Just remember that what happened to your mom and MIL doesn't have to happen to you. Like you said, the medical world is much different. I am personally of the mind that even if you must have a c section it isn't the worst thing in the world. Most important is getting the baby out safe and healthy. Good luck!

The University of KY hosptial has private labor rooms but the mother-baby rooms are shared. They have 18 labor rooms and 27 mother-baby rooms so they are often private but it can't be expected. That's why we plan on trying to check out as quickly as they'll let us. Hopefully we don't end up there on a busy night!

I've had 2 successful inductions...the first one was hard bc it took almost 24 hours but the 2nd one was super easy at 5 hours. I think it has a lot to do with how ready your body is and if it's your first child or not.

I have had two great inductions and will be going in for my third on Monday if she stays put till then.

First one was started at 2pm and I delivered at 11pm. Second one started at 10am and delivered at 6pm. Neither had any complications.

Good first time experience for me, pitocin at 6 am and delivered around noon, going in for my induction on Monday night if this one doesn't make his entrance before then. Praying for it to go just as well! Good luck to you!

These induction stories are making me feel better about being induced tonight at 1am. I've been super nervous because I do not know what to expect but it is nice to know that some woman do have smooth inductions. I know it could go either way but I am hoping since I am progressing nicely on my own that I will not have any complications. Good luck!

Also, your partner can't sleep in the room with you, and you can only have 2 visitors at a time, including your partner. They have a program for early release if everything goes well where they send a nurse to your house for the follow up care, so I'm going to shoot for that if possible.

I'm in Baltimore, definitely have private rooms here. I personally don't have any induction stories, as I'm a FTM, but my mom was induced with my sister and it was 7 hoursmfrom check in to delivery, she was it was super easy compared to me, and she wasn't induced with me.

I'm sorry, that is so frustrating! With DD1 I got sent home twice when the OB wanted to induce because there was no room (our hospital now takes all the Kaiser patients within 30 or so miles of here). I know people who have had positive induction experiences. Mine was ok; didn't end in C-section but was very long.

We had just moved here when I found out I was pregnant and had to make a quick decision between the hospital with the only level 3 nicu in the region and the hospital that had private rooms (inclusive of queen size beds so partner could room in comfotabley). As a FTM, I went with the baby's health oportunity over my potential discomfort after delivery. I'm still meh about the decision but I can't be angry at myself for going with the safer baby option. I could have felt potentially guilty at the other hospital if something went wrong. So yeah... we'll see if things change for baby #2.

That sucks, but I would make the same decision. Baby's health is more important than your comfort.

Some inductions go very quickly! Good luck and don't sweat it. It will be over and you will have a baby and that is the only thing that matters!

So still waiting for a call back from the OB! I realize those that go naturally have priority, but right now I'm just hanging out in limbo. At least return my call and give me a 41 week appointment and NST for next week.
