2nd Trimester

Sprung a Leak

I am entering my second trimester, 14 weeks, and while very excited for the, hopefully soon-to-be, newfound energy and lessened nausea, noticed that my underwear are a little bit more moist than before. I feel some slight pressure in my nether-regions and was just wondering has anyone had an issue similar to this? I plan on calling my OBGYN tomorrow to ask for his opinion - just nervous it could be something serious like loss of amniotic fluid. Any words of wisdom from those who may have experienced this?

Re: Sprung a Leak

  • I would say I wouldn't worry about it if it's not blood. But regardless I would still mention to your doctor in case it is amniotic fluid which they can check with an ultrasound.

  • I would be sure to check that it's not amniotic fluid to be in the safe side but I think it's most likely just increased discharge which is normal during 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

  • This might sound gross, but smell your underwear.  If the fluid in your underwear smells sweet, it may be amniotic fluid and needs a call ASAP.  Otherwise you're okay to wait!

  • Your body makes more "lube" as you progress through pregnancy to prep your birth canal and to help flush potential bacteria. It's annoying, especially in summer, but usually normal. The pressure is probably growing weight.
