I'm personally not a big fan of lavish weddings, so I love the idea of using things they can find (hay bales, flowers) etc. elsewhere, but asking people to bring food SUCKS. We had a small wedding and my family really wanted to just do a potluck because it was all family anyway. HECK NO.

What we consider our "real" wedding happened in Mexico alone on a beach, but b/c we're catholic, we had to do official vows with witnesses and the whole shebang before hand. Since we needed witnesses and people to do the required readings, we invited our closest friends. It was after work on a Friday and we just invited them over to our house after for food and drinks...WE bought the food and drinks! I will never understand inviting people to a party only to ask them to provide food/drinks for said party. If you can't afford to feed the people you invite, don't have a party!
Precisely. I don't even let people who come to a football party at my house bring food!

It looks to me like the umbrella you get in a fancy tropica drink. Maybe one of the guests brought pina coladas and she thought "Great! Now I don't have to pay for a veil either! Score!"
I don't mind a cash bar, or a dry wedding, even. You don't have to provide unlimited alcohol to throw a great party. Unlimited food, on the other hand, I expect and DEMAND. )
Re: Klassy Couple spend $1.56 on wedding
That's exactly what it looked like to me.
