Cloth Diapering

Newborn diapers?

I am cloth diapering my 14 month son and just found out I am expecting again. Our Charlie Bananas are one size can I use those on my newborn or do I need something different for when my new baby comes

Re: Newborn diapers?

  • It's pretty likely that your newborn's legs won't be chunky enough to work in CB's at first.  My LO didn't fit his OS diapers until around 10-12 lbs.

You have a few NB options.  1.) Cheapest option is to get 20 - 36 newborn sized prefolds and 3-8 covers.  (You'd need the lower end if you was every day, more if you was every other day.)  2.) Rent NB AIOs, pockets, or fitteds from one of the CD stores.  3.) Use a diaper service 4.) Use disposables

Once LO reaches the size where your CBs don't gap at the legs causing leaks, you can start using them on both kids if you want.  Although you might want to designate certain ones just for the older child and others for the younger because I bet it woudl be a pain to constantly be adjusting the leg elastic to fit one or the other!

  • Because of the way CBs adjust around the leg, I don't think it will be possible for you to share between your two kiddos anyway.  In the very least you would need more dipes to bulk up the stash you already have.  NB options are what the previous poster recommended.  Personally, I think you could do this for very little money.  Check out cloth diaper co-ops and see if anyone has THX NB AIOs running.  You can get them for like 4 bucks a piece and people really love them.  You could buy like 25 and have an entire NB stash for 100 bucks.  OR you could go on a site like Assunta.com and invest in 3-6 tiny wraps (4.95 a piece) and a couple dozen prefolds and be under 80 bucks.  Or do a combination thereof.  Personally I like the prefolds, fitteds, and AIO combo for the NB stage.  If you're looking for a good NB fitted that won't kill the bank, then check out Green Mountain Diapers and look into the Workhorse fitted.
