How often do you use it when referring to him/her? what about when referring to him/her to your SO/H?

We hardly ever say Sergio's name when referring to him, especially when it's SO or I speaking to one another. We usually refer to him as "the baby." Everyone else does too. I'm guessing it's because SO's name is Sergio, so it eliminates confusion...but his family did this with his younger brother, who is named after their father, and now he's 24 years old and everyone in his family still calls him Baby (yes, capitalized, as in a proper name - he signed DS' birthday card "Love, Uncle Baby" and I have never heard SO or anyone else in his family call him by his actual name).

All the time. He's never "the baby" but I do call him some nicknames. I call him Howell or Howie more than anything though.

I had to stop referring to him as the baby for obvious reasons, but generally he's Eli, Elijah, or Lijey (I'm the only one who calls him that). He's also Bug, short for Lovebug.

I call him by his name. Sometimes SO and his family call him Mikey and it drives me crazy. I'm always correcting him.

We use her first name all the time. Sometimes I'll refer to her as the baby when talking to DH. But mostly it's her name.

More than I used to. My co-worker used to get really annoyed when I called him "the kid" and still does. It was a symptom of my PPD/PPA to be honest. Also, it took me a LONG time to get used to his name.

Between us, we go back and forth... "the Baby" "Babyboy" and "Koa" - We don't have a nickname but a few of the family do. "Zander" (short for Alexander his middle name).

That's funny - "Uncle Baby" - But I get it...

We call him Emery or Em or Emm-o 99% of the time. I actually called him "the baby" to my mom in conversation the other day and it sounded really strange to me.

Avalin and Joaquin get all squicky when they imagine Emery having the name Emery as a grown up. Which cracks me up because Emery is SUCH an old man name. But I remember feeling that way about my little sisters when I was little.

i refer to DS almost exclusively by one of several ridiculous nicknames. DH usually does, too. if he didn't get called by his full name at daycare he probably wouldn't even know it.

We use her official nickname all the time. It's so easy to say. But sometimes it gets embellished with B_ Boo or Baby B_. MIL uses her given name all the time though so she does hear it.

My husband and I have called him Bear since the first sonogram and that's how we refer to him about 90% of the time....

I don't think we call DS "baby" very much, but definitely "buddy" quite a bit. If DD comes in with me to get DS after a nap, she will say, "How was your nap, Buddy?" So I guess I say that a lot.

With having one girl and one boy, I do find myself just using "he/him" or "she/her" a lot when talking to DH instead of any name.

@cedenton. I stopped calling J "the baby" for the same reason.

We always call him by his real name, or Jay.

If I am speaking to him it is always his name. If I am talking to my SO it is typically little man or his name. I know Little Man is a term many don't like but it fits his personality. He is an old soul in a one year old's body.

Yeah, I really had to make myself use his name. I usually do now. We call him Nolan Bear a lot. He's going to think his middle name is Bear. LOL

We call her Mina most of the time. Occasionally we call her Wilhelmina, I don't want her to associate her full name with being in trouble.

Bearing in mind that I live in the south, Baby Aggie is "first name" when I need her attention, or in conversation with others, "First name Middle name" when she's being a pill, and some version of "little bee" or "little britches" every other time.

We call her by name or one of her nicknames all the time. We rarely call her baby. I knew someone who was called Baby as his name for a long time!

ETA: DH's mom calls her baby all the time and it gets a little annoying!

Using DS's real name actually sounds weird to me!! We refer to him by one of his many nicknames way too often. We're trying really hard to use his first name.

ETA: He does know his name though, somehow!

I call him by his name or his nn, "chicken little". When I'm talking to someone about him I always "the kiddo" or his name.

We do use his first name, Logan, but call him by his nickname "Logie Bear" more than anything. Even my stepkids call him that or just Logie. I sometimes call him LoLo, too.

We call DS by his name and many nicknames. I have gotten into a habit of saying "baby" to Sam when he's sad or whining....I need to stop, I don't love it, but it just comes out! And we always use his name (or nickname) when we refer to him.

Our ds nickname is little buddy too! We use that or his name mostly. I call him baby boy sometimes and when he's in trouble it's the full name:)

Omg this kid has so many nicknames it is a wonder he actually recognizes his real name. We use Oliver or Ollie about 75% of the time and 100% when trying to get his attention. Otherwise it's Bit, Biddles, baby cakes, etc.

I call him by his name most of the time but I tend to call him "my child" or "my baby" when I'm at work. I don't know why.

She's either Jacqueline or Jax with anyone. (I loathe the name Jackie..and only because of Jackie from the show Rosanne)

I also call her Punkin Head, Bean, Bubie (I don't know why)

A couple close friends and DH and I call her Appleseed sometimes too

That's interesting. Is that often a symptom or just in your case? I didn't have trouble using his name but "my son" felt strange at first.

Usually I call him Wyatt. Sometimes its Wy-wy or wy-guy. DH only calls him bubba or bubb. To all the rest of our families its usually Wy-J (Wyatt James).

DS is named after my FIL. We call DS by his first name, no nickname. We do call him "buddy" once in a while. There are too many little ones in my family so calling him the baby doesn't work since he's not the only baby. In fact my nephew just had a baby last week!
