Success after IF

S/O weaning

So after my meltdown yesterday, I started thinking maybe I should try to drop one nursing session and see how it goes.  During the week, we only nurse morning, DC pickup, and bedtime.  So I thought I'd try to skip the after-DC nurse.  I picked her up and took her to the grocery store, then we kept really busy.  I made it to 30 minutes past normal nursing time, and she lost it.  She was hanging on my legs, screaming, crying, and signing milk milk milk milk milk.  I tried to distract her with her favorite toys, I tried to give her a sippy of milk, I tried giving her a snack.  She screamed and signed milk for half an hour, and I finally gave in.  It was so heartbreaking.  So how do you do it?  How do you drop a nursing session from a demanding toddler, who like @Mrs.AmyDylan and J, would like to nurse until college?
I also thought maybe that's a bad one to drop first since she's been away from me all day and misses me.  But that morning one I really need for my own comfort, and she's always nursed before bed (although only for 5 minutes, and not nursing to sleep) so I am afraid that will mess up her routine.  This is hard ya'll!

  • @TJ1979, I'm so sorry to hear it didn't go well.  Maybe give it a try in another week?  It must be so hard on both you and E.

I need to come up with a plan to wean M.  Since I SAH and EBF, that means 6 sessions a day and I don't even know how/when to start.  I keep telling myself that he's not that attached to it (we nurse on schedule, not on demand), but I really won't know how it's going to be until we start weaning.

I wonder if you can continue to keep offering her her favorite snacks every day at your normal nursing session (after DC pick-up), and perhaps she eventually will take snacks over nursing?  Hugs!

  • (((Hugs))) I'm heartbroken over weaning G but really want to start FET protocol in the New Year and I have to be done with BF for 4 months. It's so sad. PB's idea is a favorite snack and cuddles is a good one!
