BBT drop at 6 wks?

Hello, this is my first post here.

I am 6 weeks pregnant.  My first appointment won't be until the 28th (in 2 weeks).  I had been charting my BBT since my husband and I were TTC.  I guess out of habit, I continued doing it even after I got a positive HPT.  I noticed it has been dropping over the past couple of days.  Last Wednesday, when I got the positive HPT it was 98.01, Th: 98.13, Fri:98.42. Everything good so far, right?

But then on Sat it was 98.30, Sun: 98.14, Mon: 98.03 and today: 97.85.

Should I be concerned about this?  I've been feeling fine.  No major symptoms yet other than sore breasts and mild cramps very similar to when I'm about to get my period.  No bleeding or anything like that.  I have been really worried thinking it could be a miscarriage.  This is our first pregnancy and as you can imagine we are really excited.

My dr.'s office won't open until later, plus I'm at work so I don't know when I'll have time to call, any advice you are able to provide will be greatly appreciate as I'm freaking out here.

Thank you so much!

Put the thermometer down and back away slowly.  Seriously though, this is why you shouldn't temp during pregnancy.  Your hormones are so all over the place, and your temps will reflect this.

This exactly.  All you will do is fill your head with worries of why your temp did what it did.  Relax.  Enjoy not having to wake up at the exact same time every day to temp.  Enjoy being pregnant!  Congrats to you!!

  • Once I got my BFP I put down the thermometer and did not touch it again, I know seeing my temps would just mess with my mind, I loved watching them before I got my +test but now I never want to look at that thing again!

  • Thank you both so much for your advice.

I just spoke with the nurse at my dr.'s office and she pretty much confirmed what you just said.  She said the temperature is likely to fluctuate throughout the pregnancy and the cramps are normal as long as they're not accompanied by bleeding.

I feel so relieved right now. I just don't want anything to go wrong, and it's so scary when you read about miscarrying during the first trimester....

Thanks again, hope you all have a great day!

  • Same as above...no more therms!!

  • I am guilty of the same thing. I am also throwing it out the window tonight. It does cause too much worry. I also had a drop at 5 weeks and I'm not sure if it could have been from daylight savings time, the fact that I wake up constantly at night, or what. This just leads to googling and I'm not convinced that there are 150 things wrong with this pregnancy.

I'm right here with ya, sister!

Next thing is, you'll be obsessing over not hearing the baby's HB with your home Doppler! Put down all the "tools."

  • You're pregnant. You don't need to worry about your temp anymore. Our body temperatures change all the time. Don't worry about it.

  • Good luck on your pregnancy and if you value your sanity i agree that you should back away from the temping. It will drive you nuts..so will google. Just hang tight till your appt. Good luck!

  • I agree with the PPs.  That being said, my last m/c is one example of dropping temps actually meaning something was wrong.   I will say that my temp drop was much more significant than yours (mid 98s to low 97s in one day (well below cover line of 98.00), and then continued dropping).   I would go ahead and see if you can get in to see your doctor to give you some peace of mind.    FYI, this time around, I stopped temping at bfp.  Bc i know the PPs are right -- it's much more common for it to be just a random fluctuation, so continuing to temp will just drive you crazy.

ETA:   I see that you asked to your nurse.  Def no need to get in to the doctor at this point.

  • Thanks everyone for your kind words and reassurance.

I was able to move my dr.'s appointment to next Thursday.  I did not check my temperature this morning.  The thermometer has been put away! No more waking up at 5am to do that!.  It's a good thing considering I'd fall back asleep with the thing in my mouth and would end up drooling all over it lol!

  • Hi this is my first time on here and I am still taking my temp out of habbit... well from yesterday to today it dropped drastically from 98.60 to 97.73... however I forgot to set my alarm so I took it 20 min shy og an hour later... I've had 4 miscarriages so you can imagine my concern... I am 6 weeks today and don't have my first ultrasound appt till the 13th still 9 days away...
Thanks in advanced for any advice
  • What do you mean about a 6 month old post
  • My Dr actually said she was glad I called and came in because a drop in temperature could mean low progesterone... so she checked my levels and I will have results tomorrow... so I'm to keep checking my temp... it could also mean nothing at all either but I will know for sure tomorrow

  • My progesterone level did actually drop so it was a good thing that I kept an eye on my temperature still... I just saved baby's life
  • My Dr actually checks my levels and keeps a close eye on me a lot more now and all of my levels looked perfect up until last week... but I am on it now as a precaution... I figured I would have been on it from the beginning like I was with my son but all my levels looked wonderful so there was no need to be on it... but if it wasn't for me checking my temp I could have lost this one
