T&P Request - DS1 is going into surgery next Tuesday

DS has a Chalazion on his right bottom lid. We have been seeing a pediatric ophthalmologist for almost a year in hopes that it would naturally go away on its own. Well it hasn't and it surprising got bigger. :'( So Tuesday of next week I took off work for the surgery which they will be putting him under anesthesia to remove the mass. They will allow one family member to go with them before they put him under but the eye doctor who is preforming the surgery said that it isn't good for the softhearted family member, so DH stepped up to be with him when they put him under. Thank goodness... The surgery will last 15 minutes and it will take him a good half hour before he wakes up. Will have to wear a eye patch for 4 hours and not to be alramed if the patch has a lot of blood. :/ My son is very spirited and loves to run and play... always active so I'm nervous about the "No rough playing for 2-3 days". If you could spear any thoughts or prayers for DS and myself included that would be greatly appreciated

The Chalazion is on his right eye. :'(

One question...is a cosmetic surgeon going to aid in the stitches? Only reason I ask is that I had a tumor on my nose when I was 5-6 years old and since it was on a such a prominent/visible place, a cosmetic surgeon was in on the surgery to reduce the scarring...just a thought if it hasn't been discussed :)

The way they are going to do surgery is they are going to go from inside his eye lid, make and incision  inside his eye lid and then clean the goop out that is causing the bump. The doctor who is preforming this is amazing and very highly recommended in the area. He says he does maybe 10-15 a year of Chalazion surgeries.

  • Poor baby :( my son had surgery at 9 months old. The worst part for me was handing him to a nurse and them walking away. The actual wait and aftermath wasnt too bad. Its nice that your dh will be going with him. Thoughts and prayers are with your baby.
  • Thoughts and prayers! It sounds like he will be in good hands.
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • Thoughts and prayers your sweet boy comes through like a champ. My middle son had to be put under at 6 months old for a dermoid cyst that was growing in his eyebrow area. I was brave until I had to hand him over and then proceeded to pace and hyperventilate. Turns out he was just fine and healed wonderfully. I know it's scary but you'll be glad to have it overwith. All the best.

DS had his surgery today. It went very well and very quickly. Right when they put him under DH and I went downstairs to the cafe to get some coffee. When we came back up the nurse was telling us that the doctor was looking for us. We where gone maybe 15 minutes. DS was already up and finished his surgery!  :( I felt like such a bad mother that I wasn't there when he woke up. The nurse was rocking him when we came in to see him. He kept crying and waling so they gave him some tylenol. He kept complaining about his eye hurting. It broke my heart. They discharged us and on our way home he threw up all his juice in the car. The doctor said that might happen. When we got home he ate a lot and I was worried he was going to throw up again. We watched Cars and then his 4 hours was up and we took the patch off. His eye looks fantastic. It was a hard morning, but he is bouncing back quickly. Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers.

  • Thats great, Glad to hear it went well!
  • So glad to hear!! I was just wondering how it went.
  • So glad he did well, sorry for you though, its hard for mommies. I did a surgery with my daughter back in June. It was horrible for me, she bounced back fine and I was traumatized for a week. We have three or four more to go and I'm not looking forward to it.
  • He's going to be okay!  You will be stronger than you think.  Keeping my fingers crossed for him and for you!  Hopefully it will heal fast and he won't have to lay low for long!

  • You're my hero for staying strong through that. Those things just crush my heart. I want to cry when DD throws up or has a cold, so going through a surgery would turn me into a puddle.
  • Some pre-opperation cuteness...
