Weight gain

So I keep reading about everyone losing weight. Is there anyone who has gained a lot if weight so far. I'm a very small person but have gained 10 pounds already at 13 weeks I feel miserable and don't know how to contort it. This is baby #2 I gained over 50 pounds my first pregnancy but lost like 70. Anyway has anyone else gained this much weight so far?

Re: Weight gain

  • Oops sorry for the typos didn't read it over :((

  • I have gained about 7-8lbs and I feel huge. I attribute it to my bad eating habits and being too sick and tired to work out, and taking lots of naps. Prior to becoming pregnant I was working out 4-5 days a week and mostly clean eating. I've been eating better lately and been able to get more exercise so I'm hoping it all evens out. 1st tri was just about surviving.

  • i was up but then I was down 2-3 lbs. I can't understand it. I was working out 4 times a week and eating healthy, now I am just trying to survive. I think I fluctuate a lot though, so next time I will probably be up again.

  • 10 weeks and I've gained about 10 pounds- maybe more, I refuse to weigh myself! I was underweight before we started trying so my dr recommended I put on a few lbs. I used to diet very carefully and Workout every day, now I do yoga one or 2x a week and eat everything in sight! So it's no mystery why I'm already "showing" (showing cupcake).
  • I went to the OB this morning and I've gained 6 pounds since last month. My doctor didn't say anything because I told her I'm starving all the time!

  • I have gained 8lbs total... it didn't help that for the past 10 days I have been on vacation. I just can't resist salt water taffy or fudge!

  • I was up 5 until this past weekend when I went to the ER for bleeding. I got on the scale this morning and dropped all 5, which I'm guessing was caused by stress.  Last time around I gained about 5-6 in my first tri and ended up gaining around 40 total.

I want some fudge now...nom nom nom.

  • About 14 weeks and have gained about 5#. This is baby # 5 for me. I usually don't gain till 15 weeks or do and then gain quickly gaining total of 40# but I tend to lose it all before the next baby

  • I'm 11 weeks and 4 days.  I bet you I've put on 5+. I didn't want to wear the hair elastic on my pants - I just went right for the super cozy elastic band maternity jeans.  I never lost weight...I've been on the incline since week 6/7.  It's my first.  I'm a curvy girl, 5'1 and 130 to start.  At 8 weeks i was already 134.

What can you do? I'm not gonna starve myself and take that away from the baby.  I try to walk to work everyday (almost 2 miles) and in the second trimester I hope to get some more energy and be more active. AND have a better appetite.

  • I am 13 weeks and 3 days!!! When I was at the OB at 12 weeks, I had gained 8 lbs. I am not weighing myself at home and will just try and get more active in the 2nd tri to help me stay healthy.  Healthy is the word!!!

  • I'm up 6 pounds total, but it was closer to 10 and then morning sickness took a turn.  My doctor said gaining in the first trimester is okay, and just focus on better eating in the second when you aren't so sick.

  • I've gained about 5 at 14wks. With DD I gained about a pound a week for the first 25wks and then went on to gain a total of 60 (I'm also small to begin with). I think I've gained less this time because my MS wasn't as bad (last time constant grazing was the only relief) and my cravings are for salty rather than sweet (seems to be satisfied more easily). I also think chasing around DD helps. That said, if I gain another 60 I'm ok with that. I lost it before and will lose it again.

  • I've gained 10-15 lbs. I was big into weight watchers before I was pregnant. The minute I stop dieting I automatically go up in weight. I've slowed my weight gain down tho so I really think once I stop dieting I go back up to my natural resting weight. (Does that even make sense? haha) The dr said I was on track for my weight gain from my 8 week appt to my 12 week apt.
  • STM here and Ive gained 8lbs probably!  All I keep doing is eating junk...oops!  I gained 45lbs with DD but lost that and more.

  • @farmboyswife..me too. Miserable!
  • Week 13 and I've gained about 5lbs. I gained a bit in weeks 8/9, dropped a couple pounds, then started gaining a pound a week starting week 10. My doctor isn't worried, even though I was a little overweight to start. I didn't vomit much but was nauseous so I grazed throughout the day in first tri. I've also been too fatigued to exercise (other than taking the stairs at work!).

I'm hoping it will even out but honestly I've been eating fairly healthy so I'm not too worried. I plan to ask my OB if I'm on track or if I need to find a way to slow down the weight gain. If she's not concerned I won't be. Gotta feed this baby... And if I'm keeping the junk food in check and snacking on oranges and yogurt... Well.... I think I'm okay with that.

  • I've only gained 3-5 lbs at 12w. Depending on the day, my weight has always fluctuated. As long as you're eating well (as best you can in first tri) I wouldn't stress too much. Just focus on good food and regular exercise and your body will gain what it needs to grow a baby.
  • None yet but I'm sure it'll pack on soon.

  • I've gained 2 pounds so far. I'm surprised its not more - I've been eating crap and giving into my cravings. I went to the gym yesterday and it felt freakin fantastic!

I started work today (meetings, kiddos go back tomorrow) and I'm excited to get back into my daily routine, including eating on a schedule and doing so in a healthy way.

My goal is to stay within the 25-35lb weight gain for an average BMI. Not sure how realistic that really is but it would be nice!!
  • 2 at 11 weeks and 4 days, gained 2 pounds but clothes are snug. Surprised I haven't gained more since I have been eating a lot. My obsession as of late are pancakes with fresh strawberries and breakfast skillets.
  • I've gained about 10 pounds that I attribute to eating away my nausea in my 1st tri. I found that I'd get the most nauseous when hungry, and unfortunately I've been hungry about every 2 hours since the pregnancy began. Also, I had an unreal amount of aversions at first. I craved junk food more than anything (ate my weight in cheese flavored everything), and I really just ate whatever wouldn't make me sick. Now that I'm 14 weeks 4 days, and finally moved (mostly unpacked) into my new home I'm finding it much easier to eat more healthfully. Here's to hoping my weight gain will slow!

  • I don't even want to get on the scale. I WAS weighing myself daily, and was at about a 5-6 lb weight gain. However, the only thing to combat the nausea are carbs, I was a pretty clean eater prior to pregnancy. Also- I've gone from running 5 x per week, to NONE. Simply exhausted. I keep telling myself this will change come the second trimester!

  • I was a lifetime weight watchers member and seriously was a healthy weight only because of that program. When I got pregnant they said to stop WW and come back after the baby was born. I believe for me that not doing WW and the horrible vomiting which led to eating only what smelled decent (unhealthy foods) as well as having no energy to exercise is why I have gained 8 pounds and i am 13 weeks 3 days. I am really going to try harder this next trimester to be healthier. My doctor did not say anything negative about my weight gain at my last appointment.

  • I've gained 4 lbs so far. I think like PP said its a combination of eating what I want and not working out like I was. Last pregnancy I lost 10lbs during my 1T but I was also extremely sick.

I am lifetimer weight watcher too and ised to work for them. Everything went majorly out the window when i got pregnant. I am seriously a carb and cany aholic now. they are the only things that dont make me puke and constantly stuffing my face in carbs is the only thing that takes away my nausea. I really hope i can lose the weight

  • I've gained 4 lbs, and honestly I've been eating a lot lately so I'm surprised I haven't gained more. I'll be. 14 weeks Friday. I do however still exercise; I walk, over the weekend I was in a canoe. I told my doctor I saw the 4 lbs gain coming since my appetite has increased quite a bit over the past few weeks. She laughted and said in right on track as to where I was. I'm kinda sad though because I was on weight watchers before I got pregnant and took of 20 lbs and I worked so hard taking it off, and now the 4 lbs I put on were like nothing.
  • At 12 weeks I was up 8lbs. I was also sick and exhausted and stuffing my face with carbs to not vomit. My doctor told me not to worry and just eat better and exercise now that I can. She said she gained 10lbs in her first trimester every time. I'm just hoping things even out if I do. Nothing I own fits. :-(

I gained about five pounds at first, and haven't gained or lost any in the past few weeks...which is lucky. I only have to gain five more for the whole pregnancy.

@caseanddave How is that possible?  The baby will be weighing more than 5 lbs when you deliver, so won't you need to at least gain however much the baby weighs?   Also, I am obsessed with New Girl (but mostly just Nick) and can't wait until it starts again.

  • I was wondering why I wasn't gaining more weight (I'm at 13 weeks and have gained 2 lbs), given my horrible eating habits as of late and lack of exercise, then I realized that not drinking is keeping my gain in check.  I used to have a couple of beers after work everyday, more on the weekends (don't judge), so I'm not doing so badly.  I'm waiting for the onslaught though, my appetite has definitely picked up.  I'm already thinking breakfast for dinner (I've been craving pancakes).

  • I think that someone women's weight gain happens more heavily in certain parts of their pregnancy. I have only gained half a pound so far and I was shocked because I feel so much bigger. I'm sure that I will gain much more now that I'm entering my second trimester. My lack of weight gain is also probably due to the fact that a lot of foods grossed me out during my first trimester so ate like a bird... which I hated because I love food! It was so weird. I'd look at a piece of lasagna I just made and think, "It looks delicious!" but then I'd put a piece up to my mouth and feel myself gag. That's pretty much over now.
