DD1 is doing SO much better at drawing and concepts since she started class last month. It's kind of amazing. Coloring inside the lines, using different colors rather than going monotone, even more abstract drawing of concepts.
She came home last week with a little booklet that they made about the school's motto, where they did drawings for things like "try hard" and "be nice." For "try hard," she drew a picture of herself lifting weights (she wants to train for American Ninja Warrier, lol) and for "be nice," she drew herself and her sister being nice to each other, which DD2 thought was awesome and gave her a bear hug for.
She's been talking about a few girls in her class, and today we walked in at the same time as one of them and the girls held hands and chatted, and DD1 complimented the other girl's dress and mentioned that she has her first soccer practice tonight. Good conversation! This girl also gave DD1 a picture she drew last week. I gave the other mom my contact info and I have crossed fingers that it develops into a friendship.
DD1 started kindergarten yesterday, and so far so good. She loves taking the bus and feeling independent, and she's gotten a sticker from the teacher both days. She's been telling me all about it when she gets home, even about the times when she struggles, and that's great because we can talk about how to make things better the next day.
For the time being we're operating without accommodations for her ADHD, but the teacher is aware of her diagnosis and is supposed to keep me updated on how things are going.
And she started consistently using the tripod grip (without reminders) about a week ago! We've been working towards this for a year--I'm so proud of her
DD has worked her way counting up from 8-10 consistently on her own pretty much and wants to go beyond -it's just very confusing for her, as are synonyms but this is a good thing. Also in the tub, she got more than "O" right - she got Q, V and X! I think Q is pretty huge.
Dd asked me to paint her nails yesterday. She's said this a few times in the past but always ends up saying no once I get the polish out and really just wants to watch me paint my own nails. When I got out the polish yesterday she held up her left thumb and used her right hand to steady it... It was friggin adorable! She may or may not have ended up with a bit on her nose, but hey, it's a start
DS is doing so well at school so far. I really am amazed. He will even sing the songs from circle time at home sometimes and mentions the names of some of the other kids. He cries when I leave him every morning, but he runs out to the car from the house to go, so he must like it, right? His teachers say that after I leave he isn't crying at all.
Also, the past couple days he has been saying, "That makes me sad," when something upsets him. We had to make up some vaccinations that he was missing this afternoon and after he had calmed down a bit from the shots he said, "That makes me sad. It hurt!" This is new that he is expressing his feelings in words. It is also one of the few times that he has referred to himself in the first person rather than the second.

No wonder his shoes have been in good condition. I had to buy shoes every week when he was learning the tricycle.
