Upholstered Glider/Rocking Chair Reccomendations for Petite Mamas

Hi ladies,

I'm expecting #2 in January and I want to get another upholstered rocking chair for the new nursery. I currently have the Little Castle Cottage chair and I find it just a little bit too deep (I have trouble sitting all the way back and having my feet on the ground). Does anyone have any recommendations that would be a bit smaller? Price point doesn't really matter.

TIA!

  • Have you thought about getting an ottoman?  I'm short, so my feet rarely touch the ground in a chair if my back is against the back.  We have a Best Chair with a gliding ottoman, so when I'm sitting on it, I put my feet up on the ottoman.  Just something to consider since it would be cheaper than getting a whole new chair.

  • I've thought about getting one for DD1's room but I don't think she's going to be ready to get rid of the rocking chair so I think we'll need a 2nd anyway.

  • I'm 5'2" and we got a small La-Z-Boy swivel glider recliner.  It's comfortable for me and easy to reach the arm to recline (and even easier to sit it back up).

I've liked it, thought it was pretty pricey. We got it thinking we could re-use it as regular furniture one day instead of it being super baby-furniture looking.

If I could do it again, though, I might just get a simple accent chair with an ottoman. I just haven't spent as much time in it as I anticipated.

  • I also got a La-Z-Boy recliner, although mine doesn't swivel, and I honestly hated it for the nursery. It is SO loud when you recline it back and when you release it. I asked the salesman later if this was normal, and he assured me it was. Fit wise, it is okay, but I took it out of the nursery before DS was 6 weeks old and wound up stuck with an uncomfortable used glider that we found on Craigslist. If I could do it over again, I would definitely get a Best Chair like we got for my mom who is 4' 10". She has a little trouble touching the floor when her hips and knees bother her, but hopefully you won't have the leg issues of a 65 year old for a long time. :)

  • We bought this one for Mom, in cherry wood finish. Personally I like the ones that are completely upholstered, but she prefers the wood style.
