Almost four year old stopped going #2 in the toilet?!

He was doing so good for a long time he has been pooping in the toilet for close to a year with no problem.  Then all of the sudden this week he has pooped in his pants 4 times!  He hasn't gone in the toilet all week.  Any ideas on what to do?  I talked to his preschool teacher and she said that it may be he is wanting attention or also our dog died two weeks ago so she thought maybe anxiety about that triggered this?  Help!?

    Miralax. He's holding it in and ignoring the signal until its too late. Pretty common, ds went through this. If you don't want to do miralax then give him juice. After about a week of regularly having urge plus immediate need to go it'll go back to normal.

    My initial thought was also constipation. DD struggles with chronic constipation and if it hurts, she avoids it at all costs. She will hold it for days until she can't and will have an accident.
