Natural Birth

Midwifes at Overlake, Bellevue WA

Hello ladies. First of all, my congratulations to all expectant mothers and the ones who delivered their child already! My husband and I are new in WA area and are living in Bellevue. We are expecting our daughter at the end of October and I was seeing an OBGYN at the Overlake hospital throughout all my pregnancy. But on my mind I only have a natural childbirth so finally I'm thinking to switch to a midwife. Unfortunately I have nobody here to give me an advice which one to choose, and in general to get an advice about natural delivery process. Somebody started similar discussion here 2 years ago, but there are no opinions neither there. So if any of you delivered your bundle of joy at Overlake with a midwife PLEASE share your experience with me. Getting closer to my due date I became very overwhelmed with all the info I read... Really need yours, ladies, advices. I also heard that more women have experience with the midwifes at the Group Health that is right next to the Overlake. Any input would be helpful! Thank you to all of you in advance!

Re: Midwifes at Overlake, Bellevue WA

  • Im gonna start off by saying Congrats on your upcoming little one. I am not from the WA area but for the natural birth process I would look into Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (book) its amazing and will really get you into the natural birth "spirit." A documentary I really like is the Business of Being Born, you can rent it I believe on Itunes. Both of those are what got me off on the Natural Birth route and helped me feel a little more comfortable. I wish you the best searching for a Midwife. I googled and found this place which seems to be nice! I would google a place you are interested in and google "reviews" with it and see what you come up with.Best of luck and keep us updated on your journey!

  • I know people who have delivered at Puget Sound Birth Center in Kirkland. It's a freestanding center, but right beside Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. They have two groups of midwives that practice from the center and are supposed to be exceptional.
  • Thank you very much for your wishes, advices and supportive words. It's what I'm doing these days scavenging Google :). Just purchased this book in Amazon, I read about it previously as well. I wish I could have more time to get ready - time flies. Good luck to you in everything you are doing!
  • Also not able to answer your exact question but when we lived in redmond I delivered my first son at Evergreen. I don't know if I got lucky or what but my nurse there was excellent at coaching me through contractions. I do know a midwife at the Seattle naturopathy, acupuncture and birth center if you would be interested in that.
  • I'm seeing the Lake Washington Midwives out of the Puget Sound Birth Center in Kirkland. We live in Bellevue too and it's totally worth the short drive. However, if you're not comfortable with a birth center, I have a friend who had her DD with the Overlake midwives last week and she said it was great! She did hire a doula, so that's something to consider. It might be nice to have another advocate since both Evergreen and Overlake have CRAZY high c-section rates.
