Pregnant after 35

Appt w/ genetics & 1st sigh of relief

Hi everyone.. I just wanted to share some news.  My bf and I went in for our genetics counseling and NT scan + blood draw.

It had been almost a month since I last saw the little bean and my anxiety was acting  up.  Well, we saw the baby measuring 11w4d and saw & heard the heartbeat (as well as my monstrous fibroid x 4) and everything is looking good!  Of course we won't know the results of most of the screenings for a week still but that part that they look at behind the neck looked "fine" and so I am over the moon with happiness.  The tech had to jiggle around a bit to get the baby moving more than it was because she said it was sleeping.  I read a lot about beans jumping all over the place when seen and am (of course) now concerned that my baby was so still but it did move once she woke it up.  I asked her if that's ok... the baby being so still... but she said it was sleeping and that's fine.

I just wanted to share my relief here on the board.. I'm 41 and so when the counselor was going through all the tests and so on it was scary but I can handle it.

We shall see what happens from here.  Thanks all for the support..

  • Yey! What wonderful news!

And I'm glad for the head's up on the sleeping during an ultrasound; it makes so much sense, but you hear about the baby moving too much for this measurement or that and you start to think they are always on the move, however, it's probably the exception, not the rule!

    yep, totally!

My baby was sleeping during my last sono too, though the first one she was a busy little thing. She slept through most of the last sono we did though, curled up with her little hand under her chin. The tech would kind of poke her with the sono thingy and she'd wiggle a little but was not interested in waking up, probably because she was tired from the dancing she'd been doing about an hour before! Ha! It's normal though, nothing to worry about. Some babies sleep more and move less and it's perfectly fine, and sometimes when they are growing a lot, they'll sleep more too (this is also true of growing children birth to at least 10 in my experience! ;) so when your kid is sleeping a lot and not sick, get ready to buy new pants and/or shoes!)

Glad the appointment went well for you! :)

  • Glad all went well!  I am trying not to be overly anxious for my apt (2 1/2wks from now!)  I am 41 also and the jump in percentages after 40 is daunting... Hope all continues to go wonderfully for you!
  • @kelley72 : Yes, I didn't realize how much it went up after 40.. that was really eye opening but hey.. I guess all we can do is look at the big picture and try to keep positive and know that the chances are still not that bad.  My BF is 39 and while we aren't that far apart in age, I wish we could trade places just for now.. hehe.
  • Congrats!! I agree about the sleeping equals growth spurt. I can usually tell when we're going through one because baby sleeps more and I'm more hungry. :)
