Egg allergy

Yup! Definitely allergic. I gave him a whole egg a few weeks ago and he had a mild skin reaction which we thought was really just his excema and the heat. So I waited and today gave him egg yolk only which resulted in him breaking out in hives. Poor guy. Thank God there was no breathing issues. I never realized how scary food allergies could be! I called the nurse line and she told me to give Benadryl and keep an eye on him as well as keeping him out of the sun and a nice cool bath tonight. Poor poopsie! I emailed our Dr to let him know. I assume I should wait another 6 months or so before trying again. Guess I better start looking for cake recipes without eggs for his bday. Anyone else have a definite egg allergy? I know we talked about this awhile back and some of us were waiting awhile to try again.

  • Sorry about the allergy! DS got the rash followed by the hives on his face after eating scrambled eggs. I haven't tried again with yolk only, but that was enough for me. I'll be waiting until after 1 year and will more than likely do an egg free cake.

These blogs are mostly vegan recipes, and I might use one from here:

I was also thankful for no breathing issues. Get well soon, HB3 baby boy!

Thank goodness is wasn't a really really bad reaction. Get better little man.
Zane isn't allergic to them just doesn't care for the texture of eggs. I've tried a couple times. I'm sure I'll try again in a few months just to see.

  • Oh, no!  Poor love.  What a bummer.  This recipe is egg-free:

I haven't tested it out, but I pinned it to maybe use as a smash cake.

This totally reminded me of something.  My stupid SIL fed F a cracker with peanut butter on it this weekend.  I about had a heart attack when I saw, but he was totally fine.  I was a little on the fence about whether we were going to wait, our pedi said it was up to us, I think I won't give him any more on purpose.

  • Oooof. That's a bummer. Sorry to hear that. This might be totally obvious, but be sure to tell the person giving your LO his shots that your LO is now allergic to eggs. Some vaccines are stabilized using human or nonhuman albumin, and depending on what a person with an egg allergy recognizes, certain types of albumin can trigger a response. Egg white is, basically, all albumin with some water thrown in. If you tell the person giving the shot, they can give your LO an albumin-free version. Albumin-free versions if vaccines abound, so you shouldn't have any trouble.

Yes, thanks! I have it in my phone to ask when I call in the next few weeks about the flu shot too.
