Do you like your job?

Sitting at work this morning, complaining to a coworker about all the things we dislike about this job inspired this poll. So, on a scale of 1-5, on average, how much do you like your job? Feel free to explain what you like and/or don't like about your job.

Re: Do you like your job?

  • I said I like it since I do, but I'd rather be staying home with DD.  Hopefully after this baby...

  • I just posted a thread about this about a week ago, then posted another that I felt a little better about it later on in the week because I got a raise, but now I am back to loathing it.  The first thing I say when I wake up in the morning is "I hate my job!"  I am miserable and it sucks.  I don't have the energy to further explain right now...

  • I love my job and totally lucked out:) it's a great work atmosphere and my boss is a woman which is rare in architecture. My pay could be higher but I've just started out so it can only go up from here.

  • On my own poll, I voted incorrectly.  I said "I like it" but meant to say "it's okay."  First off, let me remind you all that I'm a bank teller.  There are certain aspects that I love about it--my coworkers are great, my boss is awesome, a lot of our clients are nice, and the job itself isn't bad (counting money all day).  But there are certain aspects I absolutely hate.  I have to get a certain number of referrals every month (get people to open accounts, credit cards, etc).  There's also been company-wide staffing changes and other changes that are just ridiculous and upsetting.  Morale has really been down lately because people are unhappy here.  I feel like I'm going down with a sinking ship...  This also isn't the job I always dreamed of having.  I went to college to be a teacher but after student teaching decided it definitely wasn't the job for me.  But now I have no idea what to do.  I feel trapped in this job (I've been here for 3 years when I planned on just working her seasonally for the summer).  So, after all that, that's why I meant to say "it's okay."

I loved my last job too until a new boss came in who made my life and previous pregnancy and maternity leave a living hell.

This place is way more organized and has their stuff together!

Plus since working for a university, I get to back to school for FREE!

I don't think I'd mind working at a university, doing anything really.  What do you do there?

  • I can't really say I love my job because it isn't the ideal place where I want to be, but most days I like it. Lately I've have been really slow, so I'm dragging with the m/s and exhaustion.

I would like to work in the town where I live and maybe only part time, instead of full time. After baby is born I will start looking again in my area.

  • I ended up here by default and am very tired of it. Most of the time I like that I am the boss, but that can get stressful and I usually feel guilty for not working more. I often feel like you can't satisfy people. The economy here sucks and being a retail store we are really feeling that so it is constant juggling. Oh well. Ideally I would stay home and grow and run our farm.

  • For the most part I like my job. In recent months is has been pretty stressful and there are some personnel issues and lack of management action so currently I don't enjoy being here. The work itself can be interesting and I like a lot of my coworkers, but one bad coworker really can ruin the environment.

  • I've done the retail pharmacy gig for over 8 years, and I'm pretty sure I'm at my limit. I knew I wouldn't do it a whole lot longer, but when they placed me in the store I'm currently in after graduation, they just sped up the process lol I'm hoping to be able to transition into a new job after my maternity leave.
  • I love my job. I started out as a part time assistant while I was in college, and have been here for 9 years now. If anyone stays home with lo (after maternity leave) it will be DH.

  • Meh--it's OK. I used to have a role that I really liked and then we reorganized and I got pregnant with DD so I ended up in a role that I really don't like. I'm only PT now and WFH and I get a great paycheck for the hours I put in. I keep thinking about leaving and being a SAHM, but it's hard to walk away from the paycheck for 20hrs a wk...

  • I voted I like it. My work load is dependent on other people, and so it's "feast or famine" and most times I don't have much to do. So I get paid pretty well to do nothing all day, but at the same time, I didn't go to college to do nothing all day! When I have work, it's exciting and I love my office, it's close to home and flexible with time off, so it's good for having small children. Also no raise since 2009 since my wages are based on the economy and I have no opportunity for overtime. I think once this new LO gets to be a few years old I will start looking seriously elsewhere.

  • Its Okay-

I like/love a lot of aspects.  Its nice working for a small company and I get paid pretty well for what I do.

Working for a tiny company though means taking time off is a pain and I'm a highly empathetic person so I hate taking time off that makes other peoples jobs harder. Also my maternity leave is a joke.  I know they'd give me more time if they could but it wouldn't be realistic for me to be gone for an extended period of time (I'll be off for only 2 weeks, PT for 4 weeks) I like that our clients are mostly schools and grandpartents (work for a swingset company) but it feels dead end.

I'm thinking of switching and going to school so I can work with kids with Autism. My friends kids are autistic and overall I'm great working with them and its been suggested that I become a tutor by my friend...I'm really thinking about this because it would be something I would enjoy.

  • Im a teacher and I really like my job for the most part. This year I have a BSC parent who won't get off my back and I'm bending over backwards for her child, who is doing great. It's dealing with parents like this that make me dislike my job. Hopefully she backs off soon or it's going to be a miserable year. Thank goodness I'll be going out on leave :).
  • Some days I like my job but most days I dread it.  My boss has a total Jekyll/Hyde thing going on, yesterday he went off on me for interrupting him with a phone call (and when he goes off, it's all out, f-bombs, etc), then an hour later he was trying to be buddy buddy.  I feel uncomfortable around him because I never know who he's going to be, nice guy or total a-hole.  I would love to be  SAHM, but husband is a teacher and we can't afford to be just on his salary.  After the baby I will start looking for another job, close to home and less stressful.  I work in non-profit as a database manager, but I do pretty much everything but the database here, and am treated as boss' personal assistant.  I have literally had to clean the toilets before, not that I'm above it, but I have a masters degree and would like to use it/get my moneys worth out of it. That and I don't like having f-bombs lobbed at me for absurd reasons.
