I consider it dated. I'm an Allie. I feel like I've met a lot of Allisons in my life, all around my age. I like Alice, though, which feels a lot fresher.
I love Allison, but I find it interesting that this is an acceptable, "classic" girls name now when it breaks several cardinal rules of this board. Ends in -son, surname, used to be masculine etc.
Alison has never been masculine. It does have a -son ending, but it's actually a diminutive of a form of Alice.

Love it. Classic, I think. DS1 was 'supposed' to be a girl (per our 20 weeks u/s) and he was going to be Allison I love the nn Allie with the option to use the more formal Allison.
I think it's dated. It's also my name : ) I only go by Alison, not Alice or Allie EVER (nothing wrong with them, just I dont use them).
Growing up, there were always 2 or three girls in my class named Alison/Allison/Alyson/Alicen. Its been misspelled all my life. I got it right on my drivers lisence and my paycheck-otherwise who cares lol.
Classic. We have a 4 year old relative named Allison and they call her Allie.

I prefer it to Alice, which, to me is more old-fashioned and dated. However, Allison seems like one of those names that was so trendy for a while that now, it feels dated to some.
I think it's a classic. My cousin's name is Allison and I've always thought the name was so beautiful. I also like that the possibility for a NN is there (Ally) if she decides she doesn't like to be called Allison outside of formal settings.
