I need some help ladies

Ethan has been a good sleeper until the last few days. He never really went through any sleep regression at 4 months and he is still sleeping the same at night. It's the naps we're having issues with now.

His naps are only lasting 30min max and it takes that long to get him to sleep. He wants to be held and/or rocked to sleep. We've always been adamant about letting him put himself to sleep. We never really let him fall asleep in our arms before but that seems to be the only way he'll take a nap now. He's fine at night with his normal bedtime routine. I don't know what's changed. We started rice cereal is the only thing new. He's not teething, no constipation, no fever.

I don't know what to do with him. I don't want to create a habit of him only being able to fall asleep in our arms but he needs to take naps. Any ideas or advice?

  • Connor is the same way for naps, though he has shorter naps except for the longest one in the middle of the day which is like 45 minutes. I honestly do not think it is habit forming for at least a few more months.

I have also heard that the 4 month wakeful can affect even babies up to 6 month old. Not trying to scare you or anything. I think the only thing that may help is sleep training.. but I am not doing that yet. Maybe you can make it dark inside the room you are trying to give him a nap in? I have tried everything myself and it has not gotten better, though he is getting better being put down at night finally! Good luck.

  • My DD was a horrible napper from birth...only sleeping 30 minutes at a time and only if she was being held. I knew she was exhausted so I started watching her cues. The minute she showed signs of being tired, I put her in her bed awake. She cried the first few times but I stuck it out because I could tell how tired she was. Now after only a few days, she puts herself to sleep and naps in her bed for 2 hours. Also she rolls onto her tummy and sleeps. It made me nervous at first but I couldn't stop her. Not sure if that has anything to do with it but that girl is definitely a tummy sleeper. Hang in there and do what you have to to survive...just wanted to share what worked for me.
