The Office: Breastfeeding Episode

I just watched the episode where Pam has her baby (Yeah, I know, I am way behind). The nurse was a bitch and I wanted to punch her. But the part that got to me was when she had trouble latching. It brought back a flood of memories of how difficult latching was and the reason I started EPing. I literally started hyperventilating just thinking about it. At 12 weeks I was able to latch her on finally and am now nursing her.

I was talking to DH about how stressful it was and he had no clue what I was talking about. Can anyone else commiserate with me? Was it difficult for anyone else?!

On a lighter note, isn't The Office hilarious?!

I do like The Office, mainly the first few seasons. I had difficulfy with A's latch for the first night. My sons had no issue at all so it was really unexpected and the night nurse I had was horrible. It's lucky I had some exlerience with nursing and that I knew I could get help because she was that bad. She tried to force a bottle when baby was less than 4 hours old telling me if I didn't have milk I couldn't just starve her.

Edit The hospital is supposed to be really breastfeeding friendly and the other nurses were great, many were also lactation consultants. Too bad about that one.

  • We had trouble here too. I had to pump, then we transitioned to a nipple shield, and finally to nursing. I agree, it can be extremely frustrating and traumatizing!!

My favorite office episode is where they do the race to cure rabies!!

  • Is that the episode where she bf the other couples baby and gets excited about a latch? Love that show!

Abbie wouldn't latch the first 12hrs so the on call pedi told us we might need to supplement if she didn't eat over the next 3hrs because her sugars were getting low. I cried over it. My night nurse told me to call when she fussed again so they could come help with supplementing and when they came in I was crying over it so she put Abbie on me and instead of having me try to get her to latch, she pinched and shoved my nipple into her mouth. She was the first of a number of women (incl the LC) who took charge and forced a latch. It did the trick and she hasn't had an issue since. I still use the nipple pinch she showed me if Abbie is fussing at the breast. I wrote a thank you and sent a gift card to her specifically because I felt she was the only one who understood my feelings about bf. She got a great review too. After taking classes and reading about bf I thought I thought it would come naturally - forgot that I wasn't the only one trying something for the same time.
  • I remember bawling through that episode, too, for the exact same reason. C thought I was crazy. I EPed the first time and it really hit home for me.

I miss The Office, but the good seasons :(
