Increase in discharge?

I know an increase in discharge can be normal in pregnancy. But, I've seen a lot of posts about it being a sign of PTL. I've noticed an increase for me. No change in color, smell or anything. Just feeling a bit more wet below. How do I know if it is something to be concerned about. I've had no contractions and have actually been feeling great lately.

I see my OB tomorrow and my MFM on Thursday. So I'll mention it then. At my last MFM appointment my cervix was long 3.8 or something.

TIA!

Re: Increase in discharge?

  • I would, of course, bring it up to your OB, but I've had increased discharge since 16 weeks or so.  I'm pretty sure if there's no smell/color, etc...then it is all good.  I do know it could not only be a sign of PTL, but also a sign of an infection, which is why you might as well mention it.  It's probably nothing though because it is common!  :)

  • I have had a few times where I actually thought my waters broke or were at least leaking went in to L&D a few times for it and it was nothing. They did the last time however notice my cervix was more soft and slightly shorter but I am on MBR so it was shorter to begin with. It cant hurt to give them a call if your worried but in my personal experience lot of excess "leakage" from discharge is nothing to be alarmed by. But like allwisewoman said it can be a sign of something more.

  • I would check it out. I had increased discharge that was due to a yeast infection. Since the medication my discharge is far less.
  • I saw my doc this morning. She did a swab just to make sure I don't have any infection or anything.
