Babies: 6 - 9 Months

bedtime routines

So I have a bedtime routine that includes; diaper change, lotion, pajamas, bottle, storytime and then crib. My baby screams bloody murder during the diaper change and putting pajamas on but then after we are done with that part he is very content. Anybody else experience this?? I sing to him, give him toys and make the mobile move so he can watch during this horrible part of his bedtime routine but nothing calms him down til we are done... I feel like I am torturing him by the way he screams but it is very necessary to put a clean diaper on and pajamas. Any suggestions or at least let me know I am not the only one having this issue?...

Re: bedtime routines

  • Our LO does the exact same thing!  I feel so bad, she just screams until we settle in for the bottle.  It just took it as she is tired and know that we are getting to the "end" before she can call it a night?  On bath nights it is even worse as she normally starts the scream when we get out of the tub.  Curious to see what other mommas have to say - btw my LO is 7.5 months old and has been doing this for quite some time.

  • I'm glad I am not alone with this issue but feel bad that we have to hear our babies scream, lol. My LO is 7 months and started about a week ago.. I wonder how long we have to experience this...??..

  • Our bedtime routine consists of: story, bath, diaper/pajamas, nurse, bed.  She sucks her paci while we're getting the diaper and pajamas on, but whines and squirms the entire time.  If she doesn't have the paci, she goes into complete meltdown mode.  I agree with PP - she realizes she's tired and doesn't have the patience to wait for everything to happen.
  • DD does the same thing, she's just so tired she doesn't want to deal with that part of it.  I just do it as quickly as I can, nothing else you can do.
