Guilt for voluntary 2nd csection?

Has anyone else with a repeat section have someone or more than one someone try to make you feel guilty for having a repeat section? My dad thinks that drs prey on young moms into having csections so they can make more money. Some girls I know also pry as to why I don't want to have a vbac this time. I didn't have complications with my first just they thought my dd was going to be huge. Now my dr and I discussed a repeat and I don't really have any interest in a vbac this time. Anyone else feel guilty for having a "voluntary" csection?

Re: Guilt for voluntary 2nd csection?

  • I did not feel bad at all. I had no interest in a VBAC. I recently had a friend who had a successful VBAC suggest I change doctors for a VBAC2C, no thanks! I know the risk of rupture is small but I would have a heck of a lot more guilt about that then a c section. I did not comment at all to this friend when she chose VBAC because it was none of my business so I don't know why she is so worried about my choice. You do what you are comfortable with.

  • I have been thinking about this since I had my last c/s. I got a lot of grief for having a c/s even though in really didn't have a choice (dd was breach and went into labor before turning her was decided). MIL had a vbac and thinks everyone should. My C/S went so smoothly, my recovery was easier than SIL who had a vaginal delivery, and I get to know my exact due date. I feel like a RCS is my best choice and I'm not going to let anyone make me feel guilty for it.

  • Your dad is wrong. My dr made the same amount whether I had a cs or vaginal birth.
  • My sister was going to try for a vbac but ended up with a second cs due to a plecental abruption.

I will most likely opt for a second cs rather than try for a vbac but idk for sure. I know my ob would push for a cs but if I found a doctor who was supportive and reassuring with a vbac approach I might reconsider.

  • I elected for mine and I'm no less of a parent for it.  Tell everyone else to shove it.  It's your body and your decision.

I thought about doing a vbac but the risks to me and the baby aren't worth it to me. Nothing to feel guilty about
  • Nope, no guilt at all. I wish they would have listened to me with my first pregnancy and given me one then instead of making me go through labor unnecessarily.

  • I don't feel guilty at all.  I'm not a good candidate for a VBAC, but even if I were, I'd still be having a repeat c-section.  My hospital doesn't do VBAC's so I'd have to travel.  I also just can't stand the thought of having another terrible  36 hours of labor only to end in a c-section again, emotionally I wouldn't tolerate it well.  My c-section recovery was easy, and I like knowing when the baby is coming for work and to plan for my son.

  • Fortunately no--I walked into my OB office and immediately said "I don't want a VBAC so don't ask" :-)  I had a great experience with my first C-section.  I had people ask if I was going to have a repeat and my response was "hell yes."  I have a strong personality so maybe they criticized me behind my back but no one did it to my face--everyone is entitled to their opinions but ultimately it was my and my DH's decision.

This. The first thing out of my mouth to my doctor with #2 was "Can we go ahead and schedule my c-section?" There is no way in hell I would ever attempt a vaginal birth again. I had great c-sections with super easy recoveries.
