i feel too little

so everyone keeps talking about how they sort of "popped" out after about 20 weeks and i just keep thinking something is wrong because i still have barely a bump. i'm 22 weeks and my doctor didn't say anything was out of the ordinary at my 20 week appointment but i can't help feeling like something isn't right. is anyone else just not really showing yet? i know because its my first pregnancy that it takes awhile but it seems so late.

Re: i feel too little

  • At 20 weeks with my first I was still mainly in pre pregnancy jeans. This is my second and I popped way sooner. If your dr isn't worried, I wouldn't be. I know that's easier said than done. I over worry at the 'unknown' and waiting for results. If everything was good at your a/s, I'd call it good!

  • Everyone is different! Some pop later than others, and some don't pop at all. FTMs and tall ladies (or those with long torsos) tend to show less in general, especially before third trimester. I'm 22 weeks and have just popped, but still don't look pregnant if I wear certain clothes. Don't worry! You have plenty of time to grow still and you will be huge before you know it.
  • I have a friend who had twins. She was in her normal clothes until 5 months. But don't worry, she gained about 60 lbs in the last trimester, hehe...

I'm at 20 weeks and still have people ask where I'm hiding my baby -- ESPECIALLY if I'm not wearing a maternity shirt! If I'm wearing maternity clothes (which is almost always because they're SO comfortable) you can tell!

Like pp said -- if dr isn't concerned -- no need to be either!

  • I'm a FTM, almost 19 weeks. I've only gained two lbs....but my belly definitely 'popped' as people tell me. EXCEPT, the top half is totally food baby/bloat. Baby is still just under my belly button. I actually took my picture today, and my bump had 'shrunk'. (It's just the bloat going away!).

My point - try not to worry, especially if your Dr isn't. Everyone is different

  • I was wearing regular jeans buttoned with a belt until about 28 weeks last time. It will happen. Enjoy the skinny while it lasts.

  • With my first, I didn't start showing until 30 weeks.

  • Everybody grows differently. You are carrying your baby differently than everyone else is carrying theirs. Nothing wrong with that at all.

  • Like the others said some pop early and some later on. It depends on your body. I have a long torso so I don't "pop" as quickly as others. With my first I didn't start "showing" until about 25 weeks. This time around I have a slight bump but nothing major. I bet I don't "pop" for a couple more weeks.
  • Check out HDBD thread below, you'll see a variety of bump sizes.

I agree but I'm also 6' tall, was average pre-pregnancy (size 8), and have quite the belly now. I was hoping my long torso would help me show less but that isn't what happened with me at all!

msteph - I certainly wouldn't worry and would actually LOVE staying small for as long as possible. You'll pop and that belly will be getting in the way soon enough.
