Pregnant after IF

stats- 2 embryo ladies

Hi ladies. I wanted to beg the question to how many of you have transferred 2 embryos and have gotten twins. If you have transferred 2 embryos if you please can tell me if you are pregnant with a singleton or twin beans? The internet guru & RE only tells you so much so real life data will be very helpful. Thanks in advance xoxo

  • I transferred two top grade 8 cell embryos on day 3, and I am pregnant with fraternal twins. We had been leaning towards transferring one and freezing the rest, but we only ended up with two good embryos from our cycle. That was unexpected as our RE said we were perfect candidates for a large number of frosties. We ended up having to make the decision to transfer 2 relatively quickly, and thank goodness the two that survived to day 3 were perfect! I am a bit overwhelmed at the thought of caring for 2 babies at once, but now that they are in me and I have seen them on ultrasound I can't imagine having done it any other way.

  • I only transferred one, but we're still having twins.

I'd really talk with your RE about the quality of your embryos and your specific situation, rather than anecdotal information from us, as we are all going to be different ages, have different diagnoses, have different number of failed cycles, have different lining conditions or RPL disorders, some may have done CGH/PGS, some may have done Day 3 transfers vs. Day 5 transfers, and our embryo qualities are all going to vary. At my clinic, transferring more than 1 does not increase your odds of success, but it does increase your odds of multiples.

  • I have a friend who transferred two and is currently pregnant with twins.

However, in the past she had transferred two frosties and ended up with vanishing twin syndrome...and thus currently has one toddler from that.

She's also transferred 2 and m/c the one that stuck.

So who knows.  I'm a big proponent of getting CCS done to make sure you have viable embies to begin with.  (I had two viable embies after testing and was persuaded by RE to only transfer one at a time, so hopefully #2 will also stick like this one when it's her time).  Good luck!

Good luck with your decision.  It's a hard decision to make when you're in the trenches and just want to get a positive beta. You definitely have age and great quality embryos working in your favor.

The point I was trying to make is that SART data can be sorted by clinic and by diagnosis, and that you should pay close attention to all of those factors when polling a random sample of people.  I did see your post on IF about what your doctor told you about your clinic's statistics, which seemed very strange and much lower than national averages.  You can double check implantation rates, average number of embryos transferred, and percentage of multiple pregnancies for your clinic on SART, if you haven't done so already.  If the implantation rates are really low for your clinic or they are transferring more embryos than average for your age group to reach a certain success rate, then it's time to look at other clinics.  People pay so much attention to success rates on SART (not saying you specifically, but just people in general), but I think the implantation rate and the number of embryos transferred to reach a certain success rate are far more telling of true clinic quality (as well as paying attention to clinics that aren't cycling the hard cases to artificially raise their success rates).  Anyway, hope this helps in thinking about the bigger picture.

Edit - I also wanted to say that sometimes this whole thing is just a crapshoot and a perfectly good embryo doesn't take for reasons that no one understands.  It's tough to be on the wrong side of the odds and have a cycle fail, but I also don't mean to imply that means something is wrong with your clinic (it was just the post I read on IF that triggered my comments).

2/13 - DH's SA was normal and OBGYN did BW on me to check ovulation - all was normal.  Went to RE in March 2013 at BIVF.  All BW was normal, estrogen a little high.  4/13 - HSG #1 - very painful and had spasms so suggested repeat of procedure.  5/13 - HSG #2 done by RE and both tubes are blocked :(  Per RE's recommendation - IVF cycle #1 in June 2013 w/ Follistim, Ganirelix, Ovidrel and Crinone.  BFP on 7/9/13 Beta #1 at 330.  Beta #2 at 895.  7/25/13 1st U/S at 6wk2d- it's TWINS!  Baby A 115bpm and Baby B 101bpm.
  • The truth is, you could get pregnant with zero, one, two or more babies.  The risk of triplets + is probably pretty minimal.

I had transfer of one in fresh cycle BFN, transfer of two in FET cycle BFP followed by miscarriage.  All were PGS normal.  I later conceived this pregnancy the old fashioned way.

My good friend transferred two on a fresh cycle and got a set of gorgeous twins out of it (non-PGS).  She later tried to conceive again with IVF for number two and had failed FET and fresh cycles.

So, IMHO, the anecdotes don't really tell you much.
