Just want to introduce myself (as well as surround myself with other OADers).
I had my daughter in January 2012. Several days later, I was diagnosed with post-partum cardio myopathy. I won't go into lots of medical details, but I had pregnancy-induced congestive heart failure, my heart still isn't functioning normally and another pregnancy would most likely kill me. Even if I did fully recover, I'd still be at risk, and there's no way I ever want to go through that again. So, my husband got a V, and we've been preparing ourselves for the OAD world ever since.
Most of the time, I am really excited about the OAD family structure – all the opportunities it allows my daughter, as well as the freedoms it allows me. Plus, even if I was healthy, I don't think my marriage could survive a second.
There are definitely still rough days, but they are thankfully happening less frequently (several only child books have helped greatly with that).
Looking forward to getting to know you ladies more. While I know being OAD is fairly common, it isn't where I'm at – so it's nice to be in a group where we dominate.
Re: Hello
I'm sure it's more tough when the decision is sort of made for you, but I'm glad it's gotten better with time. How scary for you!
