Ear tubes

Has anyone's LO gotten tubes in their ears for chronic ear infections? Just wondering what your experience was and what your LO's pattern with ear infections was before getting the tubes. We have an appt with an ENT today to discuss, our 8m old DS has had 5 ear infections over the course of this summer. It's awful!!

    Both of my girls had tubes. DD1 had hers placed at 14 months after 6 ear infections in about 9 months. Procedure was quick and easy, she came out of anesthesia very sleepy and disoriented and napped for 3 hours when we got home. After she woke up and ate some lunch she was 100% back to normal, you would never have known she had surgery that morning. Over 2yrs out from surgery and not a single ear infection since.

    DD2 got her tubes at 10m after 5 ear infections in about 6 months. Her tubes were actually placed while she was being treated for the final infection. Again, procedure quick and easy, but she is our feistier child and came out of anesthesia screaming mad. She settled down after about 20-30 minutes and napped for a few hours, then was back to 100% that afternoon. Our ENT did warn us that because of the age at which she first got the tubes she may outgrow the tubes before the ear infections and require a second set. So far we are 1yr post-op and tubes are still in, though ENT says they look "loose" and could fall out any time now. She hasn't had a single ear infection since the surgery, but we'll see if that holds after the tubes fall out.

    IMO, tubes are one of the best decisions we've made for their health so far. I would absolutely make the same decision again if needed, they've made such a huge difference.

    My little boy got tubes at 14 months. Now he is almost 5 and not a single infection since. He had 10 infections from 0-12 months

    Oh my gosh!!! That poor little guy :( That's so many!
    Edit: But I'm really glad they've stopped now.

    My LO got ear tubes placed today , she will be 8 mo on the 15th. She had 8 ear infections in 4 months. It lasted about 20 min. She woke up screaming anf threw up, but after taking a good nap she woke up back to her normal self.
