Gassy baby

Anyone else out there have a very gassy LO?? DS has always been on the gassier side but seems like it has gotten so much worse lately! He wakes up during the night screaming his head off with gas pain and starts farting like crazy. I've tried gas drops, gripe water, and enfamil gentlease (which he hated and would not drink). I think this is part of why he won't STTN. He is currently eating solid (squash and sweet potatoes). Anyone have any advice or tips???

Re: Gassy baby

  • Hmm, this is M through the night too! He gets no solids though...I thought it was from sucking on his hands and wash cloth during bath time :-/. He also wakes up crying and once he farts falls right to sleep. It seems that if he nurses, that helps him relax to fart and laying him on his back, lifting his legs or laying him on his side and letting him stretch his legs out helps (sometimes)

  • Could he have a milk intolerance? Gassy to the point of screaming might be a food issue. Does he have anything else like poop issues? Lots of spit up?
  • I asked his pedi about a milk intolerance but she didn't seem to think it was that. Lately he's been having more poopy diapers than normal. He doesn't spit up to often. Today I didn't give him any baby food at all to see if that makes a difference.

  • My DD was this way exactly a few weeks ago. It lasted about a month for us then she got better. She's still gassy but was terrible before. We also tried gas drops and gripe water and neither seemed to help. We would burp her and try to bicycle her legs but those things didn't seem to help either. Hope your LO feels better soon!

  • Maybe he's just having a really tough time adjusting to baby food? Although he seems old enough at 5 months, Some infants' digestive systems adjust to it much easier/harder than others.

  • Have you tried any baby probiotics? I use Baia Gaia probiotics and it has helped a bunch with gas!
  • I just started DS on a probiotic. I hope it helps him!
