TTC After a Loss

Question re: fertility after m/c... Warning: Toddler mentioned... loss mentioned.

Not sure if this is appropriate here or if I should be posting on parenting after a loss... So I'm giving the... Warning: toddler mentioned, loss mentioned, etc.

Thanks for being here, ladies... I really do love reading all the posts and being able to ask questions and get real answers...

So here's my question...

Is it common/has anyone experienced issues getting pregnant that only surfaced after their loss?  It's not been easy for us to get pregnant (low sperm count and motility), but we got pregnant month 12 with my son, and I've never had any testing... and we got pregnant a few months in with #2, which we lost back in February.

Are there cases (or perhaps, I should ask, is it common) for women to experience more trouble getting pregnant after a m/c, especially if it's been tough in the past?  I'm 34, so I know the "AMA" is coming up, too...

Again, I know this is an individual question, but I have no idea.  Also, I apologize for not really being clear about what I'm asking.  After a 4 month long miscarriage (see siggy), I'm facing my due date October 1 without a pregnancy and I'm just asking questions.  Thanks in advance for sticking with me and any help you can offer.

I hope everyone is doing well.  I'm loving the meal planning thread... YUM!

  • @soxfan777. I don't have any input for you but wanted to let you know I am here for you.

I had my loss in February as well. We somehow. Got pregnant first try. Never thought. Just to end a few months later. Now 7 months after MC still nothing. My EDD is Sept 8 so I am having a hard time these past weeks. I will also be 40 in 5 months so that just adds to it.

I just want to let you know I am here for you and hope someone here might have some in site for you.

  • I have no idea about the statistics.  As for my own personal experience, it took me 3 months to get pregnant with my daughter.  3 months to get pregnant with our second baby which ended in a miscarriage.  Now we are on our 2nd month trying again, but we are already finding it more difficult because my ovulation timing is so different than it was before the miscarriage.  My signs are different, the length of my cycles is different, everything is different.  On top of that I turn 35 at the end of September, so I have that looming ahead of me.

I'm sorry for your loss, and that you are having such a difficult time.  Good luck and ((hugs))

Thanks for your reply.  We seem to be experiencing similar issues.  No fun at all.

No real advice, just wanted to send ((hugs)).

I'm 36 and we started trying a year ago. We got pregnant on 1st try just to have a MMC at 12 weeks (D&C). Got pregnant on 2nd try 4 months later and had an ectopic at 5 weeks (laparoscopy, salpingectomy and D&C). My RE said it's most likely two separate, bad luck incidents, but there could be a chance my uterus wasn't healed and was still an unfriendly environment, so the embryo went looking for elsewhere to implant. Who knows. My o/b did send us to the RE after the 2nd loss for testing, so I'm guessing somehow it is related as a repeat loss anyway.

This is similar to my story.  3 months to get pg with my son, 3 months to get pg with the baby we lost, and now we are on our 7th cycle.  I turn 34 in November.  I understand your frustrations...I am there as well!  (((HUGS)))

  • Everyone's situations are different.

It took me 11 cycles to get pregnant. It was ectopic and I had laparoscopic surgery back in June. At that point, my doctor told me that my "clock" was reset, so I won't be seeking any assistance from my doctor until it has been a year again (next June).

If you've been trying again for 6+ months by your 35th birthday, you may want to seek out a RE at that point.

  • Thank you again, ladies.  I know that everyone is different but it's really nice to know that I'm not alone in this boat.  I'll stop putting a ton of pressure on myself.  If you TURN 35 during your 12 months of "TTC", though, can you cut it off?  Or should I wait 12 because I started before 35?  I'm not sure what's "best" or even what insurance covers.  Of course, I should stop worrying about it and cross that bridge when I get to it...
